i've done both, but admittedly used internal more than external. i've found that the external Gknot 2-pass mode can be a bit tricky, maybe it's just me but i've gotten oversized before with builds that were otherwise fine. i think i probably scaled the credits differently in Gknot without taking quant lock and i frame lock into account.

anyway, the quality is pretty similar. although sometimes i am convinced that the Gknot versions look better, but that was before curve correction was introduced ....

I've used both but admittedly use Gknot mostly for my testing. I always hit the predicted size within 600-700kb.
