Sadly the domains doom9.org and doom9.net has expired. Until doom9 himself can resolve this (or the registrar will accept me) you may use https://forum.doom9.se (as it is under my control).

Hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

Hi guys

Ugh, this one hurts. I had everything set up on autopilot so it'll automatically renew - but forgot a little details: credit cards don't last 5 years. So they tried to rebill, failed and stupid me only manually checks the mail accounts where these emails go. And to make things even better, both domains lapes pretty much at the same time.

I have one domain back up, waiting for the other to return.
And, then I have some additional entries in my calendar...

Let's see what we can do about that.

At some point, I think we ought to move to a newer platform that is more mobile friendly - that might help me be more online as I mostly visit forums on my phone nowadays.

Yeah, sadly some f#¤%er (155.117.82.23) thought it would be funny accessing one thread 1.862.780 times thus putting quite a strain on the server.

I'm monitoring the situation a bit more closely for now.

Doom9 as site and forum must be very old now. I guess many of us folks who were here quite
early on are ... a bit older now. :)

I myself was not always very active, in hiatus for years too. My peak activity was when I had
many DVDs, probably around ... 2005 to 2007 or something like that (2003 when I registered here, I think in part it was because I found avisynth and also I had some old videos from the 1990s that required to be stored; as well as DVD ripping was quite the rage back then. Nowadays I guess people just obtain individual .mp4 files and work with that; that is even super-easy now, e. g. yt-dlp for youtube videos and so forth; I even forgot how to do two pass encoding specifically, as I haven't done so in like 15 years or something like that).

We are fighting against the decay of the internet here by keeping doom9 alive. I mean, we are a bit outdated here, like with forum software and what not, but a lot of the new software tends to suck in other ways.

Take discourse - it somewhat replaced phpbb but there are parts I hate about it, like autoclosing
in 90 days. And some more things usability-wise. So I actually prefer the old software.

I don't know how it is for others, but I am always curious what happened to the oldschool people too. What are they doing these days? Such trivia. Like the virtualdub guy - he was inactive for years, then active for a few years, then back to inactivity again. The world wide web is a strange place for certain.
