View Full Version : CD-RW plays fine but no autoseek

I just finished burning my first DVD. I used my own commercial DVD of Shrek for the experiment. Wasn't easy, the multi-angles multi-language thing in the opening credits (PDI/Dreamworks Presents...) was causing me a problem until I found the solution in another post somewhere (remove angle pointers in IFOedit).

Now that problem is fixed, I have a few other nags.. I tried to read and find the answer but no dice....

I burned the finished VOB's with Nero 5.5.7.2 on my Pioneer A03 on Verbatim CD-RW media and play it back on my Pioneer DV-434 settop player. It plays well except for a few things...

1. When I close the drawer, normally the player autoseeks the menu. But it just hangs there forever. I have to press the stop button to get it out of this "zombie state". Afterwards, if I press the menu button or play on my remote, I can access the main menu or play the movie just fine. How come???.....

2. The movie plays perfectly through the end credits (Title 1 chapter 20). But it doesn't auto-stop like it should. I look at the LCD diaply on the player and it looks like it's trying to access Title 20 and no chapter #.... and just hangs there. There is no Title 20 of course. During that time, the stop button is prohibited. The only way to get out of that loop is to open the drawer.

I don't get it, I followed doom9's guide to the T, I did the get VTS sectors operation sucessfully on all the IFO's...

Another detail, maybe this will sound stupid but if I include the VIDEO_TS.VOB file (unchanged from the original rip) in the VIDEO_TS folder, it won't play either on my hard drive using PowerDVD4 or on my settop. It will only play properly if I leave the VIDEO_TS.VOB file out of the VIDEO_TS folder.... Is this normal?... If so WHY???

Lots of questions but I'm new to this and I really want to understand the reasons behind all this.

Sorry about my stupid question... I'm new to all this. I just hadn't read enough. I finally figured it out and realized all the mistakes I made. I got it to work just fine.

The only drawback is that I can't remove the FBI copyright warning and I don't think there's any way around it. I know where it is (VTS_10_1.VOB , VOB ID1 and ID3, there's 2 of them actually) and it plays fine in VOBrator. But when I use IFOedit to open VTS_10_0.IFO and strip those ID's using the "VOB extras" feature, they simply don't appear in the VOB ID list (that's why I can't strip them).

No big deal though because there's no P-UOp's for "next chapter" during playback of the warning so I can just skip out of it straight to the movie. A minor annoyance.

Dunno if it's because I have no experience but this Shrek DVD seems to me like one weird puppy... The generic Dreamworks animated Logo (not to be confused with the Shrek specific one at the beginning of the movie itself) is in VTS_09_1.VOB (title 42, ch 1)... Then the main menu is in VTS_01_0.VOB (thats normal but title 42 ch 2)... It has a seamless branching title (Shrek saying "What are you doing in my swamp?" which only plays the first time Disc is inserted in player) and then the main menu (which is also Title 42 ch 2, indistinguishable from the previous). Then selecting Play for the first time in the menu makes it go to the FBI warning located in VTS_10_1.VOB (Title 43 ch 1) and then the movie itself in VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_6.VOB (Title 1, ch 1 to 20). My mistake was assuming that the deamworks logo and copyright warning had to be in VIDEO_TS.VOB.

So it wasn't easy but I made it. Burned my very first working DVD and I managed to keep the chapters menu like I wanted. I didn't do it to have a copy, I BOUGHT the DVD so I don't need one. I just wanted to DO it for the challenge and success after nearly a week of trial and error is very satisfying :)

I want to say a big thanks to all the guys who wrote the software that made all this possible and Doom9 for the How-To's and forums.
