View Full Version : What's the difference between Nic's, Koepi's and uManiac's XviD binaries?

Are they different development branches? If they are, wouldn't it be preferrable to have only one?

I believe that Nic and uManiac are distributing identical builds, taken straight from the CVS, though Nic's has created a modified DirectShow filter with brightness capabilities.
Koepi's, on the other hand, has additions such as quantizer type modulation (varies between MPEG and H.263 quantization in 2-pass mode) and different debug output.
It would be preferable to merge Koepi's mods into the CVS, though they require changes to the codec "core", and I am waiting for one of the core developers to merge other changes before adding my own.
Hope that clears things up. Quality and speed should be identical in all the builds, as long as you're not using Koepi's quant modulation (which increases quality).

Me & uManiac's builds will be the same, but mine are always the latest & greatest, where as he doesn't appear to check this forum, so his builds are sometimes a bit irrelevant & needlessly buggy (no offence to uManiac of course)
So I'd recommend mine or Koepi's, or far more importantly come to this forum lots & find out (I normally release the latest build about 20mins after its in the CVS, so visit lots :)
Cheers,

Thanks for clearing this up. I wouldn't know how to take advantage of Koepi's additions so I guess I'll stick to Nic's builds for the time being :)
