After receiving many different answers on the subject, I been wondering if AVIF is really an image or just a AV1 video. So, which is it, an image or a video format?

AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) is an image file format specification for storing images or image sequences compressed with AV1 in the HEIF container format.
see: https://aomediacodec.github.io/av1-avif/latest-approved.html#general
So it's an image format that allows image sequences inside a HEIF container.

No clue, haven't tried. On MacOS the default Image Previewer supports avif files.
