ifoedit & tmpg not really getting along?

I'm working on some updated ifoedit guides here, so naturally I'd want to include tmpg reencoding and some difficult cases. So as first test disc I picked Matrix, R1, stripped all but the English audio and subs plus the studio logo and fbi warning using ifoedit (before I had DVD Decrypter get rid of the seamless branching stuff, angle functionality didn't work in ifoedit with that title), then I created a dvd2avi project from that, had ifoedit extract the position of the I and P frames, re-encoded using TMPGs CQ mode (91%, max bitrate 8mbit/s, min bitrate 0bit/s) using the ifoedit created template, setting a sequence header in every gop, otherwise default settings in the gop option (1/5/2, and no limit for the gop length, also no closed gops)... result when trying to mux: ifoedit freezes at 0% and takes all cpu time.
then I try scream3 r1, same ripping and tmpg setup, use ifoedit to strip whatever vob IDs and audio stream are not necessary before re-encoding and creating the tmpg template file. same result

now the 3rd try is murder @ 1600, R2, also same setup with stripping of the audio and unnecessary vob IDs prior to re-encoding, this time the muxing is still ongoing.

so.. I'm wondering.. did I miss something for the 2 NTSC titles? Before I forget, force film was of course used on both titles and both of them are 100% film after stripping the unnecessary VOB IDs (that's what I did it prior to re-encoding) so there shouldn't be any problem with the I and P frame position in the tmpg output.

to each and everyone who's sucessfully done NTSC, or even multiangle/seamless branching NTSC titles using ifoedit and tmpg... I hope you can point out the flaws in my setup as I'm really stumped atm. Derrow told me to only use I frame position.. that is another possibility but of course it takes time to re-encode and verify if that does do me any good.. and after all.. for m@1600 I also wrote a template file containing I and P frames.

I had a problem with tmpgenc and ifoedit. Ifoedit would state a certain number of frames, but dvd2avi would produce a different number of frames. This caused sync problems when importing the i frames list into tmpgenc.

To test this, get ifoedit to output all of the information on frames within a file, ie IPB info. Then load the avi file created with dvd2avi into tmpgenc, import the frames list, and you will see a difference between the two programs.

I could not resolve this issue, I did discuss this with derrow about 5 weeks ago, but I never got a satisfactory solution and in the end I gave up trying.

I then went over to maestro and cce, mastering the discs myself, and have never had a sync problem since. This means I have not used ifoedit since, so I don't know if Derrow managed to find a solution.

thanks.. I've seen the thread before and was amazed how persistently you were testing.. there aren't many people like you around ;)

in any case.. I got it working pretty well in 4 test cases so I updated all the guides... now cce is the next logical step for me, too. been encoding 2 movies tonight already.. now it's authoring time (or rather: sleep, then author).

Hi, author, i can't load the TmpgTemplate.txt as the tmpgenc program is freeze not for a while, but really long up to 1 hr as i have to cancel it.
In ifoedit, when i create the tmpgtemplate.txt, i chose all three boxes, is that right?

Being a rookie too I can really recommend reading the outstanding guides on DVD ripping on Doom9's site (http://www.doom9.org); Doom9 updated his stuff two days ago so you could find most of your answers there...

That's what I am following, but the guide only mention load the txt creating from the ifoedit and happen three check boxes when try to save it, and each check box to each value I, P, O. Don't know if we need them all checked. thanks.

As far as I can remember, Doom9 only checked "I-Frames" in his guide.
Give it a try!

Yes, now it work. But, another problem up again as I did successfully starting doing the re-mux before. But, now it hangs as I remember i have to save in the same directory. Right? Don't remember what is the right step for saving the re-mux files.

did you retract your recently updated DVD-R guides?
I was damn sure I saw some of them updated March 2002 but now the dates are back to January...

are you sure you're not just mixing up European style dates with their US conterpart? 03/01 means March the first, not the 3rd of January ;) I checked the 3 out of 5 servers (the other 2 are down right now.. most be some problems local at the site because the two are on different lines and different ISPs) and they have the most recent versions.

I could swear that I read 01/15/02 on some of the "DVD to DVD-R/W Guides" pages today with some of the newer guides missing (Multiangle and seamless branching stuff).
But as everything is back to normal now, I guess my providers cache was the cause of the problem...

well.. the 2 servers came back online and they, too have the latest version. and very soon the whole guides page is going to look different again.. I restructured quite a bit of it to make it look less loaded
