View Full Version : Heavy banding already in Blu-ray source of CG movie

I got a CG movie on Blu-ray where I spotted very obvious banding. Here is a small sample (https:///www.ligh.de/tmp/Ronal_crop.mp4) (encoded with x264 in CRF 6, so should be almost identical).
I guess this is way too much for general "debanding" filters. If at all, I guess I might need something like wavelet decomposing here? Any ideas are welcome. And if nothing works, then so be it. :rolleyes:

You tried the good old SmoothGrad by cretinesdesalpes or SmoothGradPlus by Dogway?
Lately, I use avslibplacebo deband a lot, with a large number of iterations.

BasicVSR++ (Vapoursynth only) or DPIRdeblock (mlrt) are more suited, but GradFun3D and Flash3kDB also work fine if you increase the thresholds.

As much as the AviSynth.nl Wiki reveals, SmoothGrad and GradFun3 are part of the Dither Tools, which are a toolset for working with high bit depth video. Which is not present here. So I may need some more detailed tutorial how to apply it.
And avslibplacebo seems to require the installation of the Vulkan SDK, a quite heavy burden.
I played a bit with Neo-VagueDenoiser but I am not totally convinced yet. That one darkest band seems to have a steeper step in the gradient than the surrounding ones.
I'll surely try Neo-f3kdb with presets.
