Results with Koepi 27-02-2002 ver.

Hi, this is my results:

Movie: The talented mr. Ripley europe/pal
size: 02:13:22
video size: 544*288

resized to *.avs with gnot with soft bicubic no more filters.
encoded in virtualdub with fast recompress method
framesxseg: 30-35 with Athon xp 1800+ 512 mb ram, soltek SL-75DRV2 Motherboard.

Xvid settings for 1 cd rip in 2 pass int:
Main
Credits: i-frames and p-frames quantizer: 20
Desired size in kb: 630000 - result: 625 mb
Curve compresion:
Bitrate payback:240
high bitrate scenes: 25
low bitrate scenes: 15

Advanced:
Motion search precision: 6 ultra
Quantization type: modulated
Min and max keyframe: default , min:10 max:300
Quatization tuning: min: 1 max: 16
lumi masking: no checked
Fourcc used: Divx

Debug:
2-Pass i-frame min: 1 i-frame max: 5
smooth quantizer fluctuation: checked

Comments:

i make first a divx with the koepi nandub optimized and after with xvid latest koepi buid.

With nandub the quality it's very poor imposible for 1 cd rip, it's normal the movie are 133 min long.

But surprise, with latest build of xvid, the quality it's awesome best than some of my nandub rips with 90 min movies, the final size it's oversized a bite.

Guys, this is a dificult build to optimize more i think but nothing it's imposible =)

When making a 1st pass with this build, I get quant type mpeg4 in the debug window even if I specify the use of quant type h263 in the config panel. With Koepi's build from 26-02-02 I have quant type h263. Is it just a cosmetic bug or a real one introduced by this last build ?

It might be something with the registry settings.
Just close your applications and start them again, now everything shoudl work as expected (well, before starting the second pass, make sure to reopen the statsfile genearted.... small glitch in the code somewhere...).

I have .h263 on first pass when i choose it. wokrs like charme...

Same problem as what Pasqui mentioned above is also re-produceable here. Re-openning VDub does not remedy it. Koepi's 27022002-1 build....:(

Well, i can confirm Koepi's words. When i choose for first pass H.263, in debugview i get H.263
Don't know what sort of problem you guys could have. :(
I was going to sugest to go to regedit and erase the xvid links, but you already done that.
Try uninstalling in the add/remove window the codec, then restart, then go to regedit and look for all XviD related links in the registry, erase them all, restart again, and then install the XviD build again.
This isn't great advice, but i can't think of anything else.

Yupp, sounds a little like win9x to me...

when upgrading the codec via install there might be a reboot necessary.

Hello

I just made an encoding of Gladiator (149min) using koepi's 27-02-2002 build.

Settings: all standard

704*304 Precise bicubic (A=-0.75)
Motion search precision 6 – Ultra High
Quantization type MPEG
In 2nd pass Int. Luminance masking on
Desired file size 1277MB
Encoded filesize 1220MB

Comments:

The 149min. long movie is separated into parts with lots of brown (opening logo, dessert scenes, and parts of Rome), and scenes with bluish tent (the opening battle and parts of Rome)

All the bluish parts works perfect, very detailed and no macro blocks :-)
However there seem to be some problems with some brownish parts.

In the beginning (brownish DreamWorks Logo) there is several straight lines in the lower part of the picture.

In several dessert scenes there is a problem with green colour taking over brown in one half of the picture when green vegetation is seen. This is sometime also visible in areas with brownish colours only.
Straight lines are sometime visible around brown objects when seen against the sky (mountains, people..)

try to change the FourCC to XVID and use the XviD Directshow Filter for playback, the green problem should be gone then.

I updated my build to XviD-28022002-1.

I fixed the quantizer type selection for first pass (hopefully), it works like expected here.
