Hi to all videoenthusiasts,
Intro
I was in need for a software that batchconverts a large bunch of videofiles in various containers into a mkv-container.
The mainreason was, that I have a lot of files in mkv version v51.0 that have a weird error when trying fast forward or skipping backwards.
The video acts like there are no keyframes.
No idea what error this is, but it can be fixed when remuxing into a current mkv-container.
Also remuxing flv, mp4, avi or other old containerformats into mkv can also be of advantage, because mkv is a modern and still maintained container format and mostly resulting videofiles are a little bit smaller.
So here is the piece of software I made for myself as contribution to the community.
Description
This software remuxes videofiles into mkv container and if needed, delete the old file when succesful.
It uses your installation of mkvtoolnix, picking the mkvmerge, which is (hopefully) latest available version. But thats up to you.
Compared to other batching tools, my tool may seems to be poor, but it has some features that I needed:
- Import large amount of files quickly (w/o exhaustive analyzing). My tool checks only file extension at time of import.
- remove tags and other objects from videofile
- modify filename (delete and replace Patterns)
- doing its job fully afk (overnight).
Maybe its handy for someone out there.
Limitations:
- works in german and english enviroments only, as the tool parses the output of mkvmerge.exe. If you use other languages, errors may not be detected reliably.
-->you can try copying mkvmerge.exe out of its folder somewhere else. It may switches to english if standalone.
