How many disc layers?

I am burning a custom UHD BD with a size of 60 GB to a 3 layer 100 GB disc. Should I set the layer size to 3 so it fits to the disc properly (layer 3 would be empty) or set the layer size to 2 so the data fits properly? https://i.ibb.co/30wTN8Q/Screenshot-2023-10-15-152929.png

Burning means you would want to write to a BD-R XL 100GB.
As of 2023 there might be very few players around which will play all 3 layers, and only a few which will play the first 2 layers from a TL BD-R.

I guess number of layers = 3 to match the physical disc.

Actually, it doesn't matter. The Blu-Ray which didn't play was just a one-time fluke.

Any ‘professional’ software player and especially hardware players should play any 2 or 3 layer UHD Blu-ray disc flawlessly.
To find out exactly how many layers a UHD consists of, simply look at the ‘data’ extension in BDedit and you’ll see the equivalent number of layers that make up that movie.

I think the extra 14GB are not worth the difference in price between a BD-50 and BDXL (5x the cost!!)
Better compress your video next time to fit 46GB.
Also no need to keep PCM audio. I saw that many camcorders use 24-bit PCM in MOV mode, which uses 2,3 Mbit/s. You can compress to Dolby Digital 320kbps (virtually transparent compression) and save 2 Mbit/s which you can use to improve the video quality.
