View Full Version : Constant quantiser for credits encoding

Hope it's not asking for too much, but it would be nice if we can specify different quantiser values for I-frames and P-frames.

I like this idea (though I'll probably never use it myself :))
I'll commit it tonight with the under/over-sizing fix, shouldn't be more than 20 minutes.

On second thoughts, this will cause issues with file size prediction (the credits will get bigger if you posthumously change quantizers in the second pass).
Won't be too big a difference, but it certainly won't be spot-on anymore..

Oh and another thing, it'll only work in the 2-pass internal mode (is anyone using credits in the 1-pass quantizer mode?)

Uhm, I am. :)
The reason for is because I'm not satisfied with filesize by using 'just' quantizers on 31. I need some other tricks, which I have to put in my .avs file. Thus only 1-pass const. quantizer suits my needs.

The reason it's not in the 1-pass quantizer mode's credits option is that, you can't be sure when a keyframe will occur in the credits, and thus you can't be sure when to actually tell the codec to use this or that quantizer. In 2-pass mode, you already know when these credits keyframes will occur.
It's possible with a core mod, or just forcing it to use keyframes every 300 or so frames in the credits (regardless of frame content), but it might be a couple days coming.

Are you the same tangent that hangs out at Dibrom's hydroaudio?

Glad to hear your interested in XviD, I try not to post too much at hydro..but I do read every thread(!) (being a mod I should really try to post a bit more there :)
(your name is in the chatroom but are you there? :) )
