ASPI 4.70 causes crashes during ripping

Hello,

Needed a full evening to find out those new Adaptec ASPI drivers version 4.70 causes Windows XP to crash with BSOD's during ripping (no matter which program used for that, happened with DVDDecrypter, SmartRipper and CladDVD, all latest versions)

Atleast that's what happened with my DVD Drive (Samsung SD 606F) don't know whether that happens with all DVD Drive.

After reïnstalling ForceASPI (with the ASPI 4.60 drivers) everything works okay again.

Do you know what....i had the same problem. The first time I tried them they worked fine, but I rebuilt or something and the next time they did nothing but crash! Now I just use the ahead 'wnaspi32.dll' available from ftp.nero.com.
Ive also removed Adaptecs drivers from my site and instead put ahead's up. I hope they dont mind :)

uh - i have a similar problem actually (found this thru a search)

i am getting the above mentioned BSOD for any ripper except dvddecrypter but the last 4 conversions i have done with it have all drifted out of sync after 30-45 minutes

i thought it might be the dvd drive but from this - there is hope

i am hoping someone can tell me how to change the aspi / check which version i am using ( hopefully this will fix the sync issue in dvddecrypter too )

You can check what ASPI layer you have with the ASPI check program available on the doom9 download page.

IIRC 4.70 has some stabililty issues and I've seen 4.60 recommended by a number of people who understand more than I do. hth,

i have now installed version 4.60 of aspi but get this aspi error (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dave.colley/aspierror.jpg) at the bottom of the aspicheck screen

im guessing this isnt good :confused:

What OS are you running? Im guessing 95/98/Me ?

Use the ForceASPI 'KILLASPI.BAT' file to wipe ASPI off your system. Reboot your pc, and then run INSTASPI.BAT.
Then reboot again.

im running windows xp with service pack 1 and when i play the dvd via power dvd it plays through withought error

Well, the current version of ASPI is 4.71.2: http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe

Never had any problems with this version in XP.

big thankyou to LIGHTNING UK! for the pointers
didnt go to plan with the 4.60 so i ended up using the 4.71.2 ( rb ;) )
have completed my first conversion following ripping with dvddecrypter and it is in sync

just for info if anyone is searching with a similar problem smartripper still crahsed my pc with a BAD POOL CALLER BSOD but DVD DECRYPTER recognises the new aspi layer and has done the business for me :D

Eh?! You're running XP?
You dont even need ASPI for DVD Decrypter to work under XP. It uses SPTI which is built into the OS.
Just make sure you have the latest version of the program and go into the settings and hit 'Defaults', then hit ok a couple of times.

If you look in the log window as the program load up, it should say 'Initialising SPTI'. If it doesnt, and instead says 'Initialising ASPI...' you're either not running the latest version or you're not running the default settings.
Either way, so long as it works for you, that is all that matters!
