View Full Version : Fixing stupid mix of interlacing and upscaling

I found a video with a rather strange appearance. I guess it was interlaced in 360p resolution, then upscaled to 720p by exactly doubling the height which caused a bottom field that can be deinterlaced conveniently using e.g. QTGMC, but the top field contains all blended content. On top there is a sharp logo I don't expect to be removed, but I would not enjoy it being damaged with flickering borders while trying to repair the content.

Can you imagine a way to reduce the ghosting in the blended top field by guiding any kind of blend removal by the output of the deinterlaced bottom field? Or may it be more useful to discard the top field and restore it from the deinterlaced bottom field while just overlaying the extracted logo (which is bright white and stable for the whole time)?

Cut and share few minutes sample.

Unfortunately it is not public material. I could share at most a few seconds of a smaller cropped area.

One field ok, the other blended does not sound as if the problem comes from upscaling. Sounds rather like some older form of PAL (and re-) conversion.

I looked at the separated fields of the separated fields. So the lines of all the frames are like: Top, blend, bottom, blend, top, blend, bottom, blend, ...

I found other issues in this project. So I decided to call it beyond repair.
