Why does it seem that ever since i chnged os to XP and upgraded dvd2svcd, I cant rip dvds at good speeds. It stays under 2kbs now when before i used to get speeds of about 8-9 kbs. thanks

What type of system are you running with? I'm using Sis 735 based motherboard and xp pro with a 16x dvd player. My speeds are between 9000/12000 ect. I have the latest Bios/Drivers and patches for everything, maybe try installing the latest of everything if you havent already, or post your specs.

You are better off going to a computer hardware site.
Try www.anandtech.com or other similar sites.

Well I would prolly check and see if you're dvd player is dma capable if so then make sure you have dma selected under that drive. Also make sure you that the aspi drivers are installed properly, if that looks ok then I would play the disk first with like Power dvd or some other software dvd player. Then try ripping again, if that still is acting up check your ide cable that is connected to the dvd player and see if it seems seated ok then try swapping the cable with a different one.

Thats some of the things i would do if i was having your problems..if all else fails...i would install windows 98se again because it only takes like 8 minutes to install and i would see if my dvd player acts fine with that os still after the problems you have had with xp, if you install windows98se and the dvd player works fine then you either need to update your windows xp or wait for an update just my "2 cents"
