burning bin/cue "illegal field" / can I get .mpg instead of bin/cue ?

I've extracted my 1st dvd with dvd2svcd and when I tried to burn
the bin/cue files with fireburner I got an error message saying
that I had an illegal field (I think it was "illegal field
in parmeter list")

Does anyone know how to fix this? OR
Is there a way for me to create .mpg files instead of bin/cue files
(which I could then burn to and svcd with Nero)?

seems you missed something from the "Newbie FAQ":

Fireburner has some burning corruptions issues, which you can see while watching the SVCD. I don't recomend it (Mozart)

Nero is not recommended by Herbert Valerio Riedel, vcdimager/vcdxbuild author. If you need to use it, burn the mpeg file following this guide ... So try the other software that is recommended in it for example the Daemon Tools together with your preferred burning app.

Not to sound stupid, but, does this setting mean that I'll just end up with .mpg files (instead of bin/cue & all those other files)? Yes and No, you will end up without the *.bin/*.cue and *.xml files but with some *.mpg files you can use in Nero to create your own SVCDs. But you also get the *.mpg files when you use the create images option and you have selected "Don't delete any files" in "Misc." tab. So you should just let D2S create those images as this is far better than using Nero to burn your own SVCD - you will not get any chapters with that. ;)

Nero 5.5.6.4. works fine for all my burns from the cue/bins generated. The one time I had a problem (indentical error) was when Dvd2svcd created some bogus cue files. The rip was also missing 20 min, and the cue file had a string of repeating time lines at the end. I changed the bit rates a little and the next run was fine.

It was not about the burner in my case, the cue did have illegal fields, the problem was in the CCE settings.

If you are going to use Nero to burn the cue files use the 5.5.7.2 version. There were some changes and bug fixes over 5.5.6.4.

I prefer VcdEasy or CDRWIN myself.

I didn't even realize that Nero would burn bin/cue files.
(I can't use CDRwin because it doesn't recognize my Iomega cdrw drive as a writable drive -- I think this is actually an aspi problem... but I digress)


I did some more research myself and, (as an FYI for others that may come accross this), I found that if I changed the settings in fireburner from "session at once" to "disc at once" then the burn worked perfectly.

If somebody else that is having a problem with fireburner would try mike0leary's tip on using disc at once and verify it we could then put that in the Q&A for folks.

Hi there,

I just can confirm this. I burned my first conversions always with fireburner and never had any troubles with that. In fact I gave up using it because of the possible corruptions that were mentioned in the forum though Fireburner never failed for me - perhaps because of the fact I had to choose "Disc-at-once" from the "Recording Options" tab from the first start as my burner (Mitsumi 4804TE) doesn't support "Session-at-once".

I have tried both "Disc-at-once 16" and "Disc-at-once 96" mode and both worked perfect since. The later will only work if the burner supports "DAO RAW 96" mode so it is not recommended for every burner but "Disc-at-once 16" should work with any model.

Yes, can confirm this works.

Have just been messing about for ages with this problem in fireburner.
Came here read this thread, set it to disc at once and Kaboom its fine.

this is because the author said, 10 weeks ago, that he were always using fireburner. He had also posted his configuration here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=11731&highlight=fireburner), which uses track-at-once instead of disc-at-once. This could mean that there are specific correlations between fireburner_setting/cdr_driver which should be considered.

btw: I cannot confirm if fireburner's disc-at-once setting can fix my issue with fireburner, because my old LG driver don't support THIS disc-at-once (although it supports CDRDAO with no problem... wierd...), and I don't want to use FB with my new LG driver.

yeah, I knew that dvd2svcd recommended it and I saw the thread you mentioned and the settings he used - but strangely - for me the "Track-at-once" mode never worked with Fireburner and my burner - strange isn't it?

One thing I just can mention - I just copied the Nero "Wnaspi32.dll" to the Fireburner directory to use it as an ASPI layer as Nero's ASPI is said to be really a good one. Perhaps that's why I never had any troubles with it in "Disc-at-once" mode - who knows? ;)

I used to use Fireburner also. I even used the same settings that DVD2SVCD himself recommended in a thread about 3 or 4 months ago. I never seemed to have a problem burning the images and they all seem to work fine....for a while. After a few weeks, the SVCDs started to degrade and would eventually become unusable. At first I blamed this on cheap blanks and tried a different media. Same thing happened. I finally started using the Daemon Tools method with NTI and have had no more problems. Actually, I tried the SVCDs created this way in a DVD player which I had previously thought unable to play SVCDs and they worked.

I don't understand why the SVCDs burned with FB did this, but I have a huge stack of coasters if anyone needs any.:D

Just curious, has anyone else had this type of problem?
