Are old AviSynth denoise filters suited for Blu-Ray denoising?

Can old AviSynth denoise filters, created during the DVD era, be used on 1080p videos? Or are they only suited for DVD resolutions?

Which denoisers and sharpeners would you recommend to be used on Blu-Ray movies?

Some people say that since grain/noise is bigger you should use a larger denoise support window but my opinion is that higher resolutions also reveal new small details. So you can probably use the DVD targeted denoise filters if they manage to get rid of the grain, otherwise you should use a larger window.

Yes that's like saying try and see by yourself, but this only applies to spatial denoisers. For high quality content as Blurays or UHD I wouldn't recommend spatial denoisers though, at least for final output. It's better to use more advanced temporal denoisers and mask out (if you want) features in the spatial domain.

Probably faint denoisers like salt'n'pepper/undot types or the likes of SPresso (compression oriented) are no problem either.

I have a follow-up question regarding DVD backups:

I would like to use a certain combination of denoiser + sharpener filters to give these movies a certain look.

I want to both improve compressibility and to create a video which is more pleasing to the eyes.

I've already tried hqdn3d and the result is very good, but I'm not sure which of the sharpen filters should I try?

Which of the denoiser + sharpener filters would you recommend for me to try for live-action movies?

There're many sharpeners available, you'll just have to find which one is as per your liking. Take a look at the wiki (http://avisynth.nl/index.php/Category:Sharpeners) entry for sharpeners. Personally, I like LSFmod. Also check realfinder's repo at github for more recent versions of avsi.
