Why dows D2S extract AC3?

I've seen that DVD2SVCD (1.0.7b2, probably other before did that too) extracts de .AC3 from the vobs and then makes the MP2 from there.... Why? when I make the SVCDs manually, I convert directly from the VOBs to MP2, that allows to use the option "-d" to automatically create the .mp2 with the necessary timing corrections to directly multiplex it with the video with perfect synchronization.

And also, direct VOB->MP2 saves some space in the HD and some time; not much, but a few.

Is there a reason to the .AC3 step? perhaps better quality or something?

Well, because you as well as other don't see the entire picture of DVD ripping. AC3 is NOT the only type of Audio streams that can be on a DVD, MP2 and PCM is also used. And Besweet cannot, afaik, distinguish between those 3 formats. Besides, other stuff like chapter extraction etc., is happening when extracting the audio. Besides, it's only about 20 minutes you would save.

vob input support has been removed from the last besweet beta and will no longer be present in v1.2 for legal reasons.. so it would be a major mistake trying to change that in d2s

BeSweet does distinguish between the audio formats. but like Doom9 said, i had to remove the vStrip support.

BTW, DSPGuru... Did you remove all VOB support of just vstrip? I mean, if the VOBs have no CSS (are unencrypted) will besweet process them?

I think that if you only work with unencryted VOBs, there should be no legal restrictions...
