i recently ripped a ~90 min. dvd to 2 cd's, but there is a period of about 5 seconds or so that is on neither the end of the first cd, nor the beginning of the second cd. i was thinking perhaps i was a bit too ambitious with the bitrate...could this have caused the problem?

Many stand-alone players seem unable to play the very beginning and the very end of tracks. I know mine does. That is why overlap was such a god-send.

Try playing your discs on your PC using something like WinDVD. That way you can confirm if the missing section is actually missing, or if the problem is with your stand-alone player.

Hy
I had the same problem with the Fireburner Programme. Now I use Blindwrite and its O.K.

btw
90 minutes on 2 cd's doesn't sound too ambitious
