This forum contains decades of information which I and many others reference daily. I have learnt so much from the posts of people who wrote years ago.

Yet slowly this is being eroded. First with https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1962342#post1962342

Now this thread is gone https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1619723#post1619723

There are probably many others too. Some of this information remains via wayback/google cache, but not all of it.

It's up to each and every user to decide what to do and, sadly, in this case HolyWu deleted all his/hers posts and threads.

That's OK only if they deleted own posts, but those threads contained the other users posts.

But it is their thread, and if 1st post removed, then no thread owner, and no question to answer.
(however, I dont like it either).

I too would like that any user wanting to 'anonymize' themself just wrote me a PM and I can delete them, resulting in all the posts left in place but written by 'Guest'.

It is kind of bad that one user can delete hundreds of posts and years of discussion. It is not my decision, but I think regular users shouldn't have this ability. Even deleting post that have be replied to is tricky. Generally it is not allowed for user to do so after a few minute timeout or when there is follow up to the thread.

One other example is this thread https://web.archive.org/web/20210902230010/http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=167428 13 pages and years of discussion. Not sure why it is gone, but well I don't like that threads can be gone just like that.
