I've recently moved from Windows 7 to 10 and I've been having some problems with MPC-HC. The hardware is the same, the Windows was a clean install, not an upgrade.

On Win 7 I had MPC-HC x64 + MadVR + Haali. I read that Haali was outdated so I didn't install it on Win 10.

I used to start a video, drag'n'drop the srt file to the MPC-HC window and it was loaded. The issue I have on Win 10 is when I pause the video for a longer time (10-20 minutes). When I resume playback, it gets reloaded in the window and the subtitles are gone, I need to drag'n'drop them again to the MPC-HC window.

I thought this was caused somehow by Haali not being installed. I installed Haali now and it's not working at all. I don't see the icon in the systray and it's like it hasn't even been installed.

So there are 2 issues, but basically I would like to fix the first one.

Thanks!

Advanced setting "ReloadAfterLongPause": you can adjust its value or disable it completely.

Thank you very much, I didn't know of this setting. It must be because of the newer version of MPC-HC.

What should I do about Haali? Try to make it work or uninstall it?

I disabled Matroska in MPC-HC => Internal Filters -> Source Filters and Haali now works!

IIRC Haali filters are old, and outdated. For example you won't be able to play HEVC video if you use Haali.

It's so weird that you said that. I just tried to play a HEVC video right now and I couldn't do it with Haali (I only had audio in MPC-HC). But it was working with Haali on Windows 7 just a few weeks ago!

Why would that be?

Use LAV filters instead of Haali on Windows 10.

Windows 10 is so different internally that it may have broken Haali Splitter's (full) functionality.

Just as an example, the MPEG-2 decoder DScaler 5 works well with Windows XP, but becomes buggy or glitchy with Windows 7.

Yes, I'll stick to the built-in filters of MPC-HC, which are LAV filters.

Thank you for this explanation, it makes total sense!

For a while now, my toolbar has gone missing, only the standard black and white one is shown, I have downloaded the BMP of the one I like, placed it in the MPC-HC folder, to no avail, can someone help me??
