How do I know if the menu system is IGS or Java?

The easiest way is to just look in the JAR folder on the disc. If there's something there, it's most likely Java menus. If there's nothing there, then it has to be HDMV menus. (What I assume you mean by 'IGS' menus...)
(It is possible that it could be HDMV menus, with a Java based interactive bonus piece, so there may be a JAR file, but most of the disc is still HDMV. But that isn't very common, especially these days since I don't think they do a lot of interactive pieces on BD anymore, do they?)

The JAR file is usually used by Lionsgate and Sony, IGS is usually used by a smaller number (most IGS is used by German BD-R movies).

Thank you very much.
I’ve read that BDedit cannot edit or fix BD-Java controlled menus but it seems that I can modify buttons with BDedit when i have IGS menus.
Suppose I want to modify a German IGS menu with BDedit. This menu:

For example, I want to replace the button “KAPITEL" for “CHAPTERS” or “TON” for “SOUND”. Is it possible to do this, right?
But what about erasing a button, is it possible? For example, could the "DEUTSCH" button or the "ENGLISCH" button be removed? Is it impossible to erase buttons with BDedit and should I use another software for this?

You can do the button replace and the delete too.
You can even do your own menu from scratch using BDedit.
