Hiya,

I`m new to this and making tons of coasters!!
I want to rip <4.7gb films ie. DVD-5, I have done this and it works in my PC and on 1 of my dvd players fine but not in the other. The other is compatible as I have other rips people ave sent me that work.
I presently use smartripper to copy the whole contents of the disk to my hard drive. I then write the dvdr in Nero using the UDF/ISO setting with joilet unchecked. Apparently this should work but it doesn`t.
Can anyone help?
Please!!

My experience with Nero were coasters as well. They would play in my A03 and in my Pioneer, but not on any other player that I tried. I switched to Prassi, and the same HD data when burned in Prassi has played in everything I put it in. So for me, I stay away from Nero for DVD-R. I have seen in the forum that other's people's experiences are different but those are mine.

Thanks M8.
The only problem I have is that Prassi stops burning after about 50mb.
The image is small enough to fit on the disk but the program won`t have it.
Could this be because I have Nero installed on the same system??

I have Nero and Prassi on the same system and have used both. If you don't already have one, get yourself some DVD-RW's for experimenting it will save you the added cost of coasters. I think that your time would be well spent debugging and fixin the prassi burning problem. Might be the root of all your other problems. If you have DMA turned on to the A03, try turning it off. If it's already off try turning it on. I've heard some work with it on and some work with it off. I believe mine is off.

Good luck,

Have you upgraded your firmware?
Any chance you can give me a description of how you do films under the 4.37gb.
I appreciate your responses.

Firmware is at 1.68. All of my original coasters were at 1.65 if I remember correctly, but I was not able to pin it to firmware as I changed several things when it started to work.

If a DVD is under 4.3GB I usually just use SmartRipper to rip in 'backup mode' then use Prassi Primo to write back to a DVD-R. It's always worked for me. Trouble is, I'm not finding that many sub 4.3GB movies these days. On the bigger movies, I usually will rip in Movie mode, then use IfoEdit to try and strip as much as possible to bring the film under 4.3 (strip= no extras, no subtitles, and only AC3 english audio). If that will fit, then I use Prassi to burn that to DVD-R. If it's still above 4.33 I re-encode with CCE then use DVDMaestro to re-author and burn using Prassi.

Thanks M8.

I have done it!!!
Just tried 1 and it worked fine.
Do I need to do Ifoedit on disks under 4.37gb?

I don't believe so. As a matter of fact, I think I've tried IfoEdit on this method and it doesn't return any changes. After-all it shouldn't Nothing should be changing.
