Suppose I have an AVI video and ABR MP3 audio which are exactly 90 minutes long, and I want to mux them so that the final file size is exactly 698 MB.

Audio bitrate is 112 kbps which should give size of 72.1 MB, and video bitrate is 972.3 kbps and its size should be 625.9 MB if my calculations are correct.

When these two file sizes are added they give exactly 698 MB.

But how do I calculate AVI overhead which adds MBs to the final size when muxing with VirtualDubMod or NanDub?

https://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/en_estimate_overhead.html#overhead_avi mit help, also MeGui, AviDemux,.. and other open source tools have a bit rate calculator, so you could look at their source code. :)

AVI!!! Why not use a more modern container?

AVI is easy to use, easy to edit, and works perfectly with Xvid.
