High merange question

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about merange

first, I found out that merange 64 gives interesting results in most of my tests on "difficult" sources but I've read many times that high merange values can be worse, so I was wondering if it's still the case nowadays.

then, I noticed that high merange (64 in this case) seems to help grainy sources in particular, does it make sense ?

merange defaults to 92 for the placebo preset. Higher usually helps and shouldn't hurt.

Also test --hme, you can get quite complicated with me ranges today. :)

Thanks for your answer, but I was actually reffering to x264 (I just mentioned x265 as an example)
