Star Trek and corrupted m2ts files

I'm currently ripping the Blu-Rays of Star Trek TOS and TNG.

I haven't attempted all or even most of the discs from each series yet, but TOS, season 1, disc 7 and TNG, season 2, disc 1 have both spat out errors about corrupted m2ts files and failed hash checks when I tried to rip certain episodes with MakeMKV. I've examined the discs visually and there is not a single scratch, smudge, or speck of dirt on either of them.

Has anyone else had this problem or is it just my discs? If it's common, then is there a way around it?

I have had that error with MakeMKV 0n occasion.
A good cleaning of the disc, sometimes 2 or 3, fixes the issue.
If not, IsoBuster and a couple of optic drives might do.

Hmmm. I tried polishing one of them in my disc-resurfacing machine and it went from partially corrupted to completely unreadable. I'll add that to my list of reasons to keep buying DVDs instead of Blu-Rays.

I had no issues with the m2ts files.

I once managed to rip an animated Batman Blu Ray film by using the dry cleaning of the disc with a SEEDLESS cotton (safer is to use a microfiber cloth) and if this alone does not work, place the disc inside its case in the freezer for about three minutes and then immediately place it in the reader unit. The cold helps the reader unit to recognize the damaged sectors and so the MakeMkv can save the video. The process of placing the Blu Ray in the freezer may need to be repeated until ripping is complete.

This could maybe sounds crazy but it worked for me every time.
I don't use a machine, I use toothpaste for scratched discs.



You've ripped those specific discs?
TNG discs. (Not the TOS discs)
Yes of course, ripped to HDD with AnyDVD. All discs was fine.

I remember people having problems with TOS BDs years ago (talk of authoring errors, etc, though I don't remember the specifics). There was also a recall, I think, of some TNG BDs. Maybe try a different ripper (DVDFab/AnyDVD).

Just tried TOS, season 1, disc 7 for fun, and it worked fine here with that disc.
But I can confirm irrecoverable BD faults coming up here with storage time (maybe 2..4%) and playing counts (+2..4%),
and developing faults with particular editions more often than others (maybe +1..5%).
