I've got a 12gb miniDV capture sitting on my bi-Celeron main PC and would like to use it in AVI2SVCD on my Athlon 1.3ghz system over the network.
Opening the file in DVD2SVCD doesn't take me anywhere. I can do that with Tmpeg so I'm a bit puzzled !

Read the sticky on this board how to make a post and what information you should include.
Without even knowing what kind of stream you are trying to convert, we can't give you an answer to your problem, sorry.

gee, thanks the refresher.
What kind of info are you missing exactly ?
a miniDV .avi, i.e. a capture from s miniDV camcorder.
The question is: it seems that dvd2svcd does not support opening files on a network drive. Is there a workaround ?

Hi bumblebe,
for me it works over a network - just tried it yesterday (Win2K, Win98, P2P) - no problems at all wether with UNC names or connected network drives. ;)
But as I found out: Make sure the files are not write protected - for me D2S leaves the "Go!" button greyed out then. After removing the write protection all went fine. And make sure you have read/write privileges on the network folder also - but have not tried that because with my network folders I had read/write privileges.
Also read the "AVI Hints" tab in D2S if not already done. ;)
Greetings,
Gerti

I also sometimes rip/encode over the network, but I only tried from maped drives with an own local drive letter.
Worked without any problems.

After some twiddling on my host computer, it now works for some reason. I think the trick was giving write access for some reason.
The problem is now is that my host computer freezes during prolonged access to its files from teh network. Actually only the mouse and keyboard freeze...Odd no ?
It's a Bi-Celeron on a BP6. This happens whether it's overclocked or not !
