bought one last week. :)
connection - pci and tv cable, tv-out integrated
quality - near dvd, but may vary from channel to channel
performance ???

a good choice if you have enough digital tv stations in your cable.

i only use divx 2cds so the quality is almost the same as the "original".

I have the com-hem cable TV and can get digital TV if I want to.
Does the dvb-c cards work in Sweden?
Any experience and tips?

DVB-C works with ComHem cable-tv, yes :)

Hi there.

Remember in order for your card to decode any encrypted channels you will need a CI (common interface) module, and you will need to plug into this the particular CAM (conditional access module) used for your cable companies encryption method. Then you will need the actual decoder 'smart card' (should be already in your cable stb (set top box).

Just warning you as this lot can add to the expense of your project quite alot. This put me off going down this route in the uk (cable via telewest). In fact, as a side note, the uk is a crap place to try and get dvb cards to work. Cable is problematic as above, you can't get sky via a pc dvb-sat card due to the special encription used and dvb-t is only just being relaunched as we speak. You can get stb and digital tv for dvb-t but the only card you can get is the Hauppauge nova-t and the software on that is crap.

I have had a nexus-t card on order for several months - still no firm delivery date so i cancelled it and brought a nova-t yesterday. BLOODY AERIAL IS NO GOOD APPARENTLY!!!!!!! I plan to get over the nova-t software limitations (no timed recordings!!) by using 'autoIT' (scripted automater for windows apps) and task scheduler. Hopefull the new antenna cures the problem (due tommorrow) so i can capture buffy season 6 ep 1 from the bbc in full un logoed widescreen break-free mpeg2 stream glory!

Yeah, the cable TV subscription is not cheap. Right now I'm using the analouge cable channels which are free (It's included in my apartments rent). But to get the set top box, subscription to the digital channels and all the hardware needed seems to be quite expensive.

Perhaps I'm better off with the DVB-t or DVB-c? I live in an area where it is possible to receive the terrestial digital TV also. But those channels aren't free either. Maybe the best thing is the DVB-s? I'll do some investigations and save some money...

Hey, I'm planning to buy a dvb-c card, but don't know which brand to choose? and where's a good cheap place to order it from, with good delivery times etc in europe?(or in sweden :))

Dustin have the Hauppauge cards, including the DVB-C (I think it's a OEM TechnoTrend card) and the CI module you need. Then you need to get a Viacess CAM module too if you want it working with ComHem.

Asfar as I've understand it you put the CAM module in the CI module and then the program card from ComHem in the CAM module and off you go...

And no, you don't need a CI module and all that. It depense what you what to make. A CI module is only needed to decrypt pay tv (and if you want to pay for it;)).

Why would you want to use Multidec with ProgDVB ? These are two standalone DVB Viewers. And lets stop talking about such programs in this forum... If someone need more information about Softcams, keys and all that stuff just search for "happysat" e.g at google.com

But what is wrong to talk about ProgDVB and such programs? Ok, somewhere is a plugin that do dirty things, but if you want to record (free) digital tv, those programs are much better then the applications you will get with the hardware. IMHO digital recording with dvb-cards and transcoding the PVA files to (S)VCD, DIVX or whatever, is a topic that fit in this board.
So why damning those programs? Because of a plugin?
BTW: wasn't there a filter/plugin for VitualDub to decode encrypted videos? :)

ok i thought multidec was somekind of plug-in for progdvb, as u see im new with this :)

I found very nice swedish information about dvb-c and comhem cable in a very long thread in a swedish DVD forum: http://www.dvdforum.nu/

I have ordered a DVB-C card with remote control from http://www.usa-x.org/shop/index.html which is identical with the hauppage dvb-c card but cheaper than dustin. I skipped the CI and CAM but it is possible to connect CI and CAM to this card. I'll start with the free cable channels and perhaps later buy some more stuff.

What is wierd though, if you search google for dvb-c and hauppauge, your top hit is this thread.

Anyway, thanks for pointing this out to me.
