Time Codes Necessary?

Since this is an MKV issue, for me, I'm thinking this is the right forum section.

I've been using MKVCleaver for many years and extract only the video, audio and chapter tracks. I rarely see a sync issue (once a year?), as I keep the ac3 track as is.

Does anyone see a reason, when demuxing, to involve the time codes? For that matter, are either the tags or segment UIDs beneficial when remuxing?

You need timecodes if tracks are VFR.

Most seasons, of hundreds of TV seasons of what I have, has some vfr episodes ...yet I've never seen a sync issue other than the rarity mentioned above.

Does it have utility beyond sync issues?
