Does this be a job for GamMac?

I guess this question is mostly for you.
I'm wondering if these samples are a job for GamMac?

If so, could you (or someone) point me in the right direction regarding settings? I don't seem to be having much luck correcting the color. There's 3 small samples in the zip file with different color problems.

Those are colorized B&W movies. Therefore the colors are fake to begin with so there is no "reality" underlying the image and therefore no way to get better color by adjusting one or more color channels to compensate for the unequal fading of each color layer.

GamMac will certainly make a change, but my bet is that it will make them worse.

My advice for colorized B&W movies is to desaturate them and turn them back into their original B&W, but that's just my personal taste.

Years ago my sister gave me a laserdisc of "Miracle on 34th Street" that had been colorized. I thanked her very much, and when the holiday was over I worked out a deal with my local laserdisc dealer to trade it for the B&W version.

According to Wikipedia, it was actually the first TV series to be filmed in color, although that surprised me, because I originally assumed it was colourised B/W too.

I think the first sample I uploaded was from the first episode, while the others were from season 2. Maybe it's one of those series where only B/W copies of some episodes/seasons have survived, and they've been colourised. I've no idea.

Mind you I'm not totally against the idea of converting them to B/W. When I watched the show as a kid we only had a B/W TV, so that's how I remember it.

Some dispute about the actual words, I seem to recall "its the one behind the blue".

I got It's a Wonderful Life in B&W and restored Color, prefer the color one. [pretty good job]

Assuming it's not colorised and was actually shot in color, but due to age the color has faded badly.... isn't that the sort of thing for which GamMac was created?

Yep, exactly, but more that 1 or 2 colors/channels faded, rather than all 3.

I'll bet a few bucks that sample2 was colorized. Look at the background behind the fence and it has that tell-tale "oops we forgot to colorize this section of the frame" look. It is B&W.

I'm at my main computer, so I'll take a few minutes and see what GamMac does.

I am not the GamMac expert, so the settings perhaps could be better. The attached two photos from Sample2 and Sample3 show a reduction in the residual red channel which, I think, is an improvement.

In especially the first clip, I got the impression that there was some kind of green fringing around edges
[I did not inspect closely, & I got lousy eyesight, and a great imagination, so it may not exist].

I'm still waiting on attachment approval to check out the screenshots, but I don't understand some of your settings. Are they all GamMac arguments (referring to the last three)?

You can click on the photo links to view them (or am I, as the poster, the only one who can do that), even before they are approved. Yes, those are GamMac arguments.

[edit]This site's handling of images is really archaic. Just to make sure you can view these images, I took the extra time to upload them. I'm sorry that they are so large. Again, this site does not seem to provide any way to change that. On my Firefox browser, I can change the zoom (Ctrl-Middle Mouse Scroll Wheel) to temporarily reduce the size.
