I am using DVD2AVI to encode captured MPEG2 to Divx. Problem is,
it seems to be ignoring the bitrate setting I choose. I choose 1900 kbps, but 45 minutes of vid comes out to over 1 gig of video? This problem just started, does anyone have any Idea what sould be causing it. I am using 1-pass encoding. DVD2AVI version 1.76 by LOLI.J, although I have the same problem when I tried Flask, so I guessing the problem is a codec thing. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the codec several times, to no avial. I know somebody else has had this problem and knows the answer, please help.

Thanks,
-G.

you should change the max quantisizer settings to a higher value
Try 2 for lowest and highest at like 12 or higher and you should be ok.

That's what I have them set to now.

I don't have a bitrate calculator at hand, but at 1900 kbit video + sound you can get up to 1 gig for 45 minutes. Just reduce bitrate and do another pass. Then you will see if your bitrate settings are ignored. What sound compression do you use?

Well, at 1900 kbps you should get about 650 Mb for 45 min audio and video. Just make sure you're using the codec settings right. There are 3 types of compression: 1-pass, quality based and 2-pass.

If you select 1-pass, the final bitrate should be close to the one you specify on the codec settings.

But if you have selected quality based, then the final size doesn't deppend on the bitrate field, but on the quality slider.

The two pass method gets the final size more closer to the desired, and far better quality, but of course it takes twice the time.

What I was trying to say is that he should check if he saves uncompressed audio. In that case he will get about 450 MB just for audio and can easily get 1 gig filesize.
