FranceBB, Brainstorm thingy is just a parallel to the optical illusion that I'm sure you have been confabulated by.
Dolphins and whales have brains bigger than a human, we used to judge inteligence on brain size up until somebody pointed out
that whales had bigger brains whereupon we moved the goalposts to put us up front again .
Whales big brain is mainly for handling audio and echo location in the depths, it takes a lot of processing and it aint clear cut what any sound is [unlike a spelt word],
different people can say the same word, where different sex, age, regional or national accent, and yet we may still recognise the same word, there is a lot
of brain work going on there, and sometimes we can be given clues [or led astray] by different cues [like watching lips, or reading or thinking or anticipating a word].

To me, Brainstorm and Green Needle should not sound anything like each other, thats what is freaky about it.
But try with headphones if you can, and also maybe see if anyone else you know (who speaks in an equally odd native tongue) can experience the aural illusion.

I don't have TikTok, Instagram and other things.
The only thing I have in terms of Social Networks are LinkedIn and Facebook 'cause I follow politicians and it's helpful to keep contacts with some of my friends and old colleagues, but that's it... and most importantly, I post only what I want while there are people taking pictures with their smartphones (not even a decent camera) all the time... Oh and hashtags... Hashtags are probably the smartest thing programmers invented: they tricked people into labelling their pictures and manually insert meta tags by letting them think it's "cool", so people began to take pictures and post things like: "#Sunbating" or "#Ice cream" or "#At home" and so on. People at FB are geniuses xD

I personally use Linux and Windows XP in a virtual machine, for everything else I have Windows Server 2016 and I connect remotely to it via RDP to encode.
This is way off topic, but still... if you are willing to try an XP based OS, I think you should try Windows Shorthorn http://shorthornproject.com/
It's XP/Server 2003 based, but has many improvements, including a modified kernel that includes more functions and allows to run programs and drivers that wouldn't normally run on XP.
This is the closest thing you can get to an updated Windows XP.

Well we're still actively working on the One Core API. You could technically install One Core API on a perfectly valid version of XP, however I would advise you against that as it's still not stable.
By the way, I didn't "find" it, we (me, Dibya, Samuel, Peter, Barcode and others) made it.

They're all updated and support TLS1.3, however they're all Firefox based.
I gotta say, though, that despite we've been actively working on it for years, we've made very little progress recently as there are still tons of kernel calls that have to be backported. Its usage it's simple: there are two kernel and a modified HAL among other things. Whenever a call is valid/legacy, it goes directly to the old kernel and comes back, if however a call is new, it's either redirected to an old call which would behave the same (like GetThickCount64 which is redirected to GetThickCount) or, if it's not available in the original kernel, it's redirected to a new kernel which is made by us and it's based on both reactOS and Wine. As to the Hardware Abstraction Layer, on x86 its main thing is to allow PAE up to 64 GB of RAM just like it does on Windows Server 2003, while on x64 is basically the one from Windows Server 2003 x64 which has been modified and transplanted to make it work with XP x64. We've also managed to get compatibility with some Vista drivers and we're targeting Win7, however our biggest challenge now is to get it working on UEFI as it's 2020 and Intel will be removing BIOS compatibility from next year, but unfortunately, we're not there yet... :(

Which brand is that audio setup?

The one I have connected to Sky Q and to the UHD BD is a very old Phillips 5.1, while the one connected to the computer is a crappy Auna 5.1 going through a C-Media Audio card.
The original plan was to get a proper setup with a proper external audio card to replace the external C-Media Audio card.

At no point did I hear Green Needle nor BrainStorm, so I gues thats a plus.

Yes hard cutting audio can result in clicks, especially when the last sample of clip1 is a high positive value and the first sample of clip2 is a high negative value.

A very short dissolve (1ms) from clip1 to clip2 fixes the problem very nicely. It involves a bit of stuffing around with DelayAudio(0.001), ChangeFPS(1000), Dissolve(..., 1) and AudioDubEx(OrigVid, Last).

The cheap solution is a 1 frame dissolve at normal speed (40ms).

EDIT:
Some years back I had an inner ear infection (originally from chest infection, it spread),
balance systems went all to hell and if I closed my eyes for maybe 5 seconds
whilst standing up, I would fall flat on my face.
Woz well weird, only thing that sorted it out was about 6 or 8 pints of beer, then everything felt kinda normal. :)
(antihistamines and the like made no difference, only beer worked.)

When walking along the street, I had to take extra special attention to everything, felt like I was walking a tightrope,
and very conscious of my weaving from side to side, and of others thinking I was pissed.
(We take inner ear balance for granted, considerably harder when you have to use only your eyes.)

Basically the thing responsible for your balance in your ears has some problems when you sleep and it might happen that it feeds wrong information to the brain. When that happens, you get the free fall feeling in which your brain basically tells you that you're falling even if you're actually just lying on your bed. It's pretty common, actually, I'm surprised you never experienced it before.

I've found an article about it by Steve Jacques, Head of anatomy, Leicester Medical School, UK:


The feeling is triggered by an involuntary muscle movement called a hypnic jerk that occurs when the body is in the transitional stage between wakefulness and light sleep, known as the hypnagogic state.

When the body enters a state of deep relaxation in preparation for sleep, this sensation can be misinterpreted by the brain as the body falling and therefore being in danger. So the hypnic jerk knocks you back into full consciousness. One proposed explanation for the link between “falling” and experiencing a hypnic jerk in the hypnagogic state is that it is a reflex that improved the chances of survival for our ancestors.


Although I wasn't totally happy with the explanation 'cause I found it to be a bit too technical, so I looked again on the web and I found this one which better explains it - for those who don't have any medical knowledge like me - by Matt Chamings, another professor but from Barnstaple, UK:


While awake, we are normally aware of the effect of gravity. For example, sitting writing this answer, I am conscious of the pressure of the chair on my bottom, as well as the fact that I can see that objects are orientated correctly along an up-down axis. Furthermore, my inner ear uses gravity to provide constant input about the position of my head.

While falling asleep, a crucial sensory relay station deep in the brain known as the thalamus becomes inhibited. The thalamus is the pathway through which sensations become conscious. If the brain doesn’t receive information on the direction gravity is acting, it may conclude that there must be no force pushing back against the body from the floor (or our bed). This is consistent with weightlessness or free fall.

However I once fell 60 feet out of a tree, hit about 3 or 4 branches on way down; sending me doing somersaults and cartwheels through the air
before landing with my arm splatting the branch that broke and caused my fall.
That arm/wrist ended up wrapped around the branch, broken in 5 places and dislocated in 3 places, my mother nearly collapsed when she saw it.
Anyways, no namby pamby hypnagogic state is gonna make a great deal of impact after that.

I looked at it the first time and it wasn't moving much, but I was on my mobile and it wasn't centered. I tilted the phone and made sure it was in the middle and yeah it looks like it's growing, but depending on how you look at it, it grows in one direction faster than in the others (or at least that's the impression I have).

You know, the other day I watched a person interview a young girl and he asked her some questions to understand the differences between generations. One of the questions was "which social media are you in?" and she started listing them (TicToc was in there). At that point the interviewer said: "Uh, I'm surprised you didn't mention Facebook" and the young girl said: "No, that's for old people, like my parents".

It was in that moment that I realized that not only I'm slowly approaching my 30s, but that some of my friends are indeed parents already...

I can confirm this. Glasses on, almost impossible to spot. No glasses, image was immediately visible. I'm nearsighted with astigmatism, can anyone farsighted try this?:D

the docs dont really know why that 2% get away with not needing optical assistance for their entire lives.

You might get by without glasses, but they make many things easier. I'm a little under fifty and I got my first glasses for everyday use (I use them if I need to see clearly far, like when driving) this year but struggled already for years :devil:

The irritating thing about glasses is that the brains adjust and then it's much harder to manage without them.. it would be interesting to test how long it would take to train them to go back to life without glasses :D

About 3 months, then back to square one, just like before you started wearing them [reading newpaper at arms length].
However, its just so damn convenient to reach for them instead of a having to struggle.
[Basically, your brain just gets used to switching off focusing when you use glasses, takes time to get it to start switching on again]

EDIT: This book, I got some years ago [when my eyes were going dodgy] from the local library.
Was first published in [I think] 1901 [EDIT: apparently 1920 for original version], and was in its 51st [or thereabouts] edition/printing when I got it.
Comes with an eye [similar to Snellen] chart, to assist in eye exercising so as to get by without bins,
it does work to some degree, but just too damn easy to use them [bins] "just this once".
