My grand daughter has a PC complete with DVD which works OK both on the VDU and on a separate TV.

She has been given a new TV/VDU combo which does noy have an SVideo connector. Can the Scart plug and , if so how?

Can the SCART plug? Ummm ... yes, there are SCART -> S-Video (and composite video & audio) adapters, if that was your question.
