Hi friends,
I'm a newcomer. I instaled DVD2SVCD. If I start the ripping I become the Message "Drive is not authentcated.".
I use the DVD-Reader LG DRD-8160B.
Can someone help me?
Thanks.

Welcome HubaBuba,
please read the following thread and the linked threads in it:

Your answer should be in the Q&A. ;)
Greetings,
Gerti
P.S. Try to authenticate the DVD with a software player first (WinDVD, PowerDVD)

Hi gerti,
thanks for your answer, but I've done so with PowerDVD 4.0. But it has no effect.
But now I've found the Q&A and I think all will be ok.

do you have ASPI installed? if you use w2k or wxp you might need to install it manually (with forceASPI e.g.).

Hi HubaBuba,
but seems that you stil haven't read the Q&A(Q33)! - And I will sure hope the "friendly" icon is not directed towards me - read http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8127 and http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17397 on that!

Sorry,
the icon means me !!! I've changed it and the text, then I think you've been right - first read the Q&A, then ask the board.
I'm very affraid about your help.
Have a nice day.

Hi HubaBuba,
no need to be afraid. :) You know, we all were new to this some time ago, but it is a little bit annoying to see that some people don't ever try to read the Q&A and the other Stickys of the forum - with the solution to their problems already compiled by other helpful members.
So welcome here and feel free to post your questions after doing a little bit of reading the Q&A. ;)

Hi Gerti, I have quite a similar problem.
I do have the FAQ, Q&A, and the amazing thread printed (and read many times), XP ASPI layer installed (by the way Adaptec published ver aspi 4.7 (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?cat=%2fProduct%2fASPI-4.70&prodkey=ASPI-4.70) last week...). I am using DMA mode, on my drive, etc.
Chapter based ripping works fine for all my DVDs except for this one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004XOR4/qid=1014649352/sr=8-6/ref=sr_8_71_6/002-4491545-4571210). It is NTSC and all the known rippers fail to decode a specific vob file on that if I go by chapters. Ripping the whole DVD using DVDDecrypter 3.0 is the only way to go. That's a pain in the arse because that's a problematic DVD anyway (I have to play with iVTC and deinterlacing - there is a current thread on this) and it takes ages to have one run.
Symptoms:
- internal routines freeze
- vStrip freezes
- Smartripper is searching for the key for ages
- as far as I know DVDRipper does not support chapter based ripping (if yes, then how?)
The well known "try to authenticate the drive with PowerDVD" does not help. There is nothing suspicious in the log, because the program hung.
Any idea is welcome in advance!
Thanks,
Z

Hi Zoltan,
have you already tried to re-rip/pipe the *.vob files through the internal routines of D2S after having them ripped with DVDDecrypter to your harddrive? - This should enable the chapter selection again but I don't know if the internal routines will freeze again - usually they will not - so give it a try. ;)
The new ASPI driver from Adaptec - hmm - I heard some strange things about - something like disappearing drives after installing them. But you could try them - why not.
Anyway, the most of the time the internal routines will do a really good job and the problematic rest has to be ripped with tools like DVDDecrypter and then piped through the internal routines again. If this also fails - then I'm at the end of my rope too.

Gerti, I did not know about this re-rip feature. I'll try this as soon as I get to my desk.
Thanks for the idea!

Wow!
1., I made a video_ts subdir
2., moved my ifo and vobs there
3., made a subst command to the directory
4., started an rip using internal routines
After many tries this was the one and only method that succeded extracting my selected chapters from this DVD.
Gerti, I appreciate your help!

Hi Zoltan,
Thank you for your report. Just one point: all you need to do is the step 4, and only 4. Be sure that the output folder is not the same of the original.;)

Woops, I got it. It's even better this way!
This deserves its place in the Q&A though :)
Finally I can play with this stupid iVTC (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16806&pagenumber=2) problem more effectively.
Thanks again,
Z

Hi Zoltan,
with the Q&A - have a look at Q47 Step 3. Or do you have something like "What can I do when ripping with the internal routines fails for a specific DVD?" in mind?

Yes, I thought of a "ripping failed" scenario.
Thx,
