If I'm converting download DVD rips (divx), what should I burn them as? am I going to see a difference if I encode them for svcd instead of what I have been doing (vcd)?
thanks,
tony

Hi,
You probably will see a differnce.
VCD's use MPEG-1 video, which is of much less quality than MPEG-2, which is format that SVCD's (and also DVD's) use.
SVCD's take up more space, however, so you will need more cd's for a movie than you would if encoded as vcd.

SVCD may not be worth it if you're transcoding from DivX. Basically you can only get as high quality as your source (DivX), so VCD may be good enough. I would suggest converting a small piece both ways to see if there is a difference.
