fxp woes - any ideas?

since I got more servers I used to upload to one server, then fxp from that to the rest which is way faster than upping everything from my box. That used to work just fine until I went back to my parents' place today.. here FXP is a big nogo.. not a single byte gets transfered despite using the exact same program (flashfxp 1.4) and the exact same settings (as far as I can tell). I got a hardware firewall as part of the ADSL connection here (cable at the other place, no router in between) but that shouldn't really make any difference for server to server transfers, should it? after all.. your control connections do work just fine, and the servers make connections to each other and not to you (which wouldn't work because of the NAT)... anybdoy got an idea? I tried to fxp from the 2 servers that support outgoing fxp connections (the rest of the servers only accepts incoming connections).. both don't work anymore... and with a 64kbit/s uplink (yeah, they call that broadband.. but that's as narrowbanded as it can get.. ISDN has the same uplink) updating 5 servers (actually 4, two auto-synch) is a major pain in the ass

Try the free smartftp. www.smartftp.com. It seems very cool though I have yet to really use it

I know smartfpx (and it can fxp).. but I'm not looking for another program because smartftp's way of handling queues is not so obvious to put it nicely. Why on earth would the program be the cause of my problems?

is there a "passive mode" that you can set. sometimes this helps from behind routers.

without having passive mode enabled you cannot even ftp if you're behind a nat (in most cases.. sometimes the router will substitute the ip addys in the ftp request on its own but that doesn't work here)... plus, the servers communicate just fine using passive mode if I initiate the transfer from my other computer
