but how could i forget Merlin (with sam niel as merlin) as well as The Odyssey - they aren't movie's per se, as they have only been shown on TV and show them in two parts. i haven't seen it in the video store however, i know that Merlin is on DVD in Germany!

fortress was alright movie - shot in australia i believe.

and a movie query, what is the movie where in the future, all the crims get dumped on some island. one side of the island is held by all the hardcore crims and anarchists where as the other is held by the more peaceful ones. the movie follows some new crim (who i think is innocent) - no it's not escape from new york or LA

next friday was also a great laugh as was American Pie 2 - was much better than i expected

Sounds like No Escape with Ray Liotta. The guy had a big gun that blew up the camp at the end? They sent in Helicopters and the prisoners take it over kicking the warden out to get killed by the bad guys? Bad guy had his nose pierced on the bridge about 5 times?

Just saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This was one funny movie. Half the cast of Amercian Pie was in it along with Mark Hammil and a ton of other cool cameos.


I agree if it wasn't for Ty Law and the Whole defense the Pats would have never won. The played a great game, except for Willie his holding penalty almost killed them when they got the ball on a fumble and ran it back for a TD.

Ironically, McGinist (sp?) was the only defensive player on whom the books were offering action as the game's MVP. I quietly gloated as I saw nothing but Rams out that week, boozin' and huffing cigars-I'm not kidding. The best was the Pats coming out as a team-the Lam fans sitting around me had no idea what was going on, and still didn't get it when I explained it to them. Ultimately, the final, game-winning drive merits the MVP. Thus, as my final list update, I recommend a sporting spectacular DVD. While technically not a movie, SuperBowl XXXVI Champions (http://www.nflshop.com/catalog/productdetail.cfm?TID=7193-41010216545241160322377-0&sku=SB36D-PA&TeamName=Patriots&module=Home&action=View&gridID=3) is approximately 95 minutes of sweet action!!!

Hero, chinese movie from Zhang Yimou. Believe me, it is an incredible movie, a real experience for me, great plot, auperb picture, a very "clever" movie with still yet some incredible sword-fight scenes.

...I can't believe :o how many of us Europeans (last poll showed a major tendency of Europeans in this forum) are falling for 2 brain cells Hollywood crap (give or take a handful of directors - like Lynch, Hitchcock, Kubrik, Coppola, the Coen Brothers, etc...) when there is so much great cinema being produced outside the US, and I don't mean just Europe.
Seriously, do you know how I find out whether a movie is worth the trip to the theather? I check the voting on IMDB, click on the demographic breakdown and spot the difference between Non-US voters and US voters. This tells me how inteligent a movie is and it hasn't failed me once.

(Some) very good random movies:

Passion de Jeanne d'Arc, La (1928) - Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer

Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922) - and any other movie directed by F.W. Murnau

Metropolis (1927) - and almost all movies directed by Fritz Lang.

Naked Lunch (1991) - and almost all movies directed by David Cronenbergh

Tuvalu (1999) - Directed by Veit Helmer

Pianiste, La (2001) - Directed by Michael Haneke

Cidade de Deus (2002) - Directed by Fernando Meirelles

An excelent example on how everyone is hooked on hollywood is:
Happiness (1998) - an American movie directed by Todd Solondz. A lot deeper and more original than the so much aclaimed "American Beauty", yet it never got half the attention it deserved.

Shooting fish is very very good, but I though it was a little bit too much a comedy to be named as one of my favourite movie. Although I mentioned Full Monthy... I guess I could have had mentioned shooting fish too.

The Big Lebowski (Jeff "the Dude" Bridges just plays so great)
fear and loathing in las vegas (all the movie is a crazy trip)
Magnolia (somehow liked it, especially the weird ending)
Backdraft (how to describe it... all great, the soundtrack, the effects(no computer-generated but real explosions that blow you away!))
Brazil (great, because it's just so weird)
L.A. Confidential (good movie, like the detektive story)
Evolution (just funny, great Julianne Moore)
Zorro (good music, entertaining movie)

guess I'm stopping here, sorry to paste so many movies, but they are all great (and there are so many more (probably forgot some very important).. I tried to name the ones not mentioned here)

I've always liked crime syndicate, blaxploitation and martial art flicks, especially the old ones made in the 70's and 80's

my favorite crime syndicate movies are:

The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola is probably my
all time favorite. The books by Mario Puzo are great as well

also great is Scarface by Brian De Palma, and the Streets of
the Bronx and Goodfellas by Martin Scorsese

as for 70's I vote for Foxy Brown and Coffy with Pam Grier, Dolemite (my nic is inspired by this movie :devil: ), Shaft, Dirty Harry and Bullit, Coffy by Roy Ayers and Shaft by Isaac Hayes are my favorite soundtracks

as for martial art I like Chackie Chan (unbelievable stunts) and films by John Woo especially The Killer

BTW, also saw that Bugs Bunny was still posting here, back then, man, he was my favorite member of any board. No one could make me so laugh (or think, when he wrote a serious posting) in the digital world, like he could. Hope he's all right...

If you want crap you can find it everywhere, has nothing to do with Hollywood or non Hollywood. For every "Dude, I lost my car!" I can find a movie that's just as crappy from a non-Hollywood production. And, AFAIK, India produces most movies in the year, wonder why no one has mentioned any movie from there? IMO, Almodovar is just as hyped and overated as Spielberg, but such things are personal and really depend on the taste on the person who's watching the movies.
