ripping the abyss

not sure this forum is the best choice, my apologies if not

well i'm trying to make a dvd->dvdr of abyss (R2)

on the disc there is the short and the long version so it uses seamless branching i'm not very aware of this topic

i've read the guide about these specials dvd, but using smartipper or cladmdec didn't work i don't know where my error is
once ripped i launch the first vob in eugene player and the image is garbled sometimes so i didn't even tried to give these files to ifoedit

edit : the vobs files "play" fine in dvd2avi, maybe the problem is only in the ifo files, what settings do i have to choose to rip them but i'm afraid no settings exist really to decrypt ifo files :(

Hmm, I own a Abyss DVD. Newer tryed to rip it tough. Let's see if i have energy to rip it sometime and tell u if im succeeding. BTW do u want long or the short wersion?

If you're using either of those two programs for the ripping, they will effectivly make the ifo file invalid because they remove sections from the vob that shouldnt be there - i.e. the other angles/branches.
Im guessing that is where your problem lies. You cant play the file from the IFO because the IFO is invalid!

Im not sure if im getting ahead of myself here, but if IFOEDIT supports the ripping of a certain angle from ripped vobs, just use DVD Decrypter to rip the files (which will leave them all intact - IFO included) and then IFOEDIT the branch/version of the movie you want.

If you are mearly encoding the files, do you really need the IFO file anyway? Only FlaskMPEG uses it doesnt it?

BTW, you dont need to do anything to 'rip' and IFO file, you can just copy it in explorer if you like. They are not protected in any way, shape or form.

Hi,

I just ripped this dvd and encoded it. I ripped the special edition version, it's about 27min longer than the theatrical version.

What version of the DVD do you have? Mine has two seperate sets of vob files, one longer than the other.

Wasn't hard to figure out which was the special edition version....
