Hi.
Some times ago I submitted a problem on Flexion.org .:-(
I'm very slow.Sorry.
I can't use Dvddecrypter 3.x and SmartRipper 2.? that use aspi layer and LIGHTNING UK! told me that was a conflict between region drive and other region settings ( system and discs ).
This is the output of Drive Region Info v1.1 :
THIS DRIVE HAS REGION PROTECTION
Region Info :
Region code : Not set
User : 5 changes left
Manufacturer : 4 changes left
Status : Not set
The version 2.0 output is the same.
I live in italy and the win98 region is 2 and dvd-discs region is 2(i think????).
How do i set the region number of the drive ?
It is not automatic when the first dvd is inserted ?

The clue lies here:

> Region code : Not set

You need to set the region code of your drive, then you wont have the problem.
The only thing is....once its set, you can only read discs from that region (using an aspi based ripper anyway). Note: you can 'change' the region a maximum of 4 (making 5 in total) times.
If I were you, I'd visit www.firmware.fr.st and download an updated RPC1 (region free) firmware for the dvd drive.

You can set the region of your drive using device manager.
Right click on My computer and select properties.
Click on the 'Hardware' tab and click the 'device manager' button.
Expand the dvd/cdrom branch and right click on the dvd rom device.
Click properties.
In the window that open up, you should have a region tab of some sorts. From there you can select a region.
You may need to have a disc in the drive from the appropriate region.

Let us know how you get on.
