Theres been a couple of posts on this but no answer...

How do you get AC3 audio out of an AVI?
I messed around with GraphEdit and i got playable audio out, but it was garbled, not properly decoded or something.

Source.avi > AVI Splitter > AC3 from AVI XForm > Dump

If anyone can tell me a way to get the AC3 audio out of an AVI id be very greatful, thanks

it works for me all the time.

Sometimes, you should use after the soft ac3fix (very quick)

i did try that but i only tested the files by trying to play it in wmp. It doesnt seem to play in there, but the file it gives is actually a valid ac3 file that can be converted to a wav :)

you can play your ac3 with for ex powerdvd 4 . it works . Sometimes the header is not good but with ac3 fix no problem after.

If you want to play a ac3 only (without movie) it is not possible with wmp even you have ac3 filter.

Depending on the computer, AC3 may be able to be played in WMP. (I forgot who first said this) It's like playing baseball with a stick; it may work, but not well. ;)

Simply use nandub, open your AVI, set audio to 'DirectStream copy', then use the 'Save WAV' function and rename the WAV to AC3 afterwards or same time with demuxing ... thats it ....

i CAN play AC3 in wmp USUALLY. Its just that the file that graphedit created could not be played in wmp. Thats why i thought it didnt work, but it does, just not in wmp :)

not sure about the V/nandub meathod, im not sure it even lets you create a file, it gives you errors before then.

Dont you use Vdub ( or only the special AC3 Vdub ) it cant handle AC3 at all ... use nandub, it was optimized for this.

what the ac3vdub / nandub extract is an ac3 with a wav header.. not all apps accept that... run ac3fix over the extracted file and you should be fine.

To play back ac3 just install the appropriate diirect show filter
or
alternativly the boundries of winamp have yet again been widened with a ac3 plugin

I'm new to Graphedit and was wondering how i do the final step - Dump Source.ac3???????????

do that :

open graph/insert filter/directshowfilter/

you will see dump filter . Double click and then save as .

That's all.don't forget to write ".ac3" at the end of the file.

the closest i can find is File Writer, and when i put that and connect it, a screen pops up saying basically that what i did was incorrect!

dump is on the list If you don't find it ,perhaps your version is too old . I don't know. But file writer don't walk .

Hi,

YOu can use Virtualdub to do this too.

Open the video file, select audio menu, click on both "Direct stream copy" and "avi audio"

Then click on "file" --> select "Save wav"

name the file youraudio.ac3 and click save

It will demux the audio into ac3 format.
