Hello

Is there any quick / generic setup for MPC-HC for lay people to watch 1080p movies with a 4K tv?

Right here the 4K movies are very noisy and also have a paler image.

it's possible ?

You probably mean HDR rather than 4K being the main difference.

Using madVR and setting up HDR -> SDR tone mapping is the correct way. Sorry I don't have a guide for this, it isn't too hard if you don't dive too deep into the options. Simply install madVR, choose madVR as the renderer in MPC-HC, and in madVR's hdr settings choose "tone map HDR using pixel shaders". Play with target peak nits until the image looks good to you and make sure "output video in HDR format" is unchecked.

Rereading your question, I may have gotten your issue backwards.

If you want to watch 1080p video (SDR) on a wide gamut (HDR) 4K TV then in madVR you simply need to configure your display to "this display is already calibrated" and DCI-P3 (pure-power 2.20 is fine).

4K versions of older movies are often noisey, it is simply noise in the video. If you have a decent video card you could set reduce random noise in artifact removal, this can help with noise at the cost of a softer image.
