Speed issue with DVD2SVCD

I dont know about you all, but i followed the guide on how to set DVD2SVCD up and run it.....but it has been taking well over 5 hours now and it is not even half way done. I have a dual MOBO with 1.2 GHZ processors. I wouldnt think it would take this long, when it only takes 45 minutes for each half on TMPGenc.
So does anyone have any advice on how to speed this bad boy up ?

I'll add to this since you have duals. CCE does not support duals as well as TMPG. I think the most effective thing you could do is get the beta test version of dvd2svcd that supports TMPG and use it in CQ mode. That should scream on your machine and it is one pass instead of 4 to 5 as CCE would normally do if you use the defaults.

I wish i had seen this earlier DDog....... I am currently encoding w/ CCE and it is taking forever.... I am using the Default 4 pass also.
I have a question though. What is the difference in procedures between the DVD2SVCD beta version and The regular DVD2SVCD. Does it require any different settings. Is there a different guide for using it. I am debating on canceling w/ CCE and starting w/ the BETA version.. It has bee 12 hrs.... And i still have 12 more to go. Is this normal for the CCE version of DVD2SVCD. I hope these questions make sense, this is my first time experimenting w/ DVD2SVCD, so I don't know much about it.

I have a (single not dual) 1.4 Ghz AMD Thunder bird. Does using TMPEG only benefit people w/dual processors, or would it speed up processing time for me also? Cause 24 hrs to encode makes me think I am doing something wrong, am I? Sorry for all the questions.

JayTray, what can I say. A good encode takes time. You can do a couple of things:

Reduce passes to three (you will never notice the difference unless you are using a low bitrate.

TURN OFF audio downsampling.

Do not use Temporal smoother (if speed is your goal)

ALL of this is in the faq and Q&A. Read it please.

Oh, and I deleted your post in the advanced thread about tmpg where you were talking about your dvd player not playing svcds. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with that thread so i assumed you must have put it there in error and thought I would do you a favor and delete it.

just so nobody gets confused here:
if you want to compare tmpgenc and cce, you have to leave avisynth out of the equasion. if you do this (by encoding avi to mpg e.g.) you'll see that:
1)tmpgenc supports dual processors very well (cpu usage 95-100%)
2)cce supports dual processors fairly well (cpu usage 70-80%)
3)tmpgenc is pretty fast (1.6RT)
4)cce is a lot faster (3.8RT)

it doesn't matter wether you have a single or dual system, cce will always be faster than tmpgenc.

I'm not complaining about the time. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. I trust your word. Next time I'll try a 3 pass instead. Are most people using CCE, or the beta version of DVD2SVCD w/ TMPEG?

My bad DDog I didn't realize I was in the ADVANCED forum and not Basic Forum. I took your link from the basic forum, you know This One (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17704). And I noticed clixomano mentioned his Buddy Couldn't play SVCD on his home DVD player. I was only trying to tell him about This Link (http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd). I don't know why it is cool to have This Thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16404), IN DVD2SVCD ADVANCED forum, that talks about using TMPEG to change the headers on an SVCD to VCD, so a VCD player will play them. Thats all I wanted to say. Not that my DVD player doesn't play VCD. Maybe you should have read the whole thing.. lol
