Alpha is a type of chip, like x86, PowerPC, SPARC, ect
There are Linux tools available, but I don't know how robust they are. Here is Doom's guide: http://www.doom9.org/divx_linux_guide.html
The guide doesn't deal with decrypting the DVD's so you may need a little more research, but this should be a good start (if your running linux)
good luck.

Isn't there an win nt version for alpha? I have no idea, but I always imagined it just worked like the i386 WinNT.

Thanks for the link, wmansir, I'll try it out.

Don't the windows tools work in winNT for alpha?
I have absolutely no idea because I never had an alpha, but it'd be interesting to know.

Yeah, some of them seem to work in NT, but that's only with 32bit emulation, which (I suspect) is much slower than full 64bit support.
