I have this really annoying problem:

When ripping a DVD I get some frames that are defect (ie they have some strange "artifacts" in them). I could live with that, but they also manage to crash whatever encoder I try to use with the extracted VOB-files. Is this a hardware/software/driver problem?

I have tried multiple rippers, like SmartRipper and vStrip but they all produce the same errors (on different DVD:s).

Please help me with a solution.

its possible this may be attributed to trying to rip one region dvd while having your region set to another.try using dvdgenie to change the region to that of the dvd you are ripping then try.

i had this problem once but with different simptoms.in smart ripper it read bad sectors until i changed the region.

The region would have no effect on sector errors.

I solved it!

I changed the DVD from DMA to PIO. It took me over an hour to rip it, but it worked perfect. Maybe somebody want to add this to a FAQ or Q&A?
