Speed and hardware

Hi there!

I've used DVD2SVCD for a few DVD's now. It's really a very slow process on my machine (doing 4 pass and temporal smoother), and I wonder if I could improve speed in any way with some new hardware. I'm using an Athlon 1200 / FSB 266 MHz., so the choice is: a faster processor or/and a faster processor AND a new motherboard.
Has anyone experience with A7M266 -D with 2 Athlon XP's? Does it work at all with the package DVD2SVCD? or is it just asking for an immence number of problems?

some (experienced) users believe you don't need TS when >3 VBR. You would get a tremendous speed increase is you stop using TS or would do less passes.

Regarding hardware, simply put:
in video encoding data is frame served by avisynth to CCE. In this process, avisynth uses most of your resources.
Now pay attention: while CCE is multiprocessor aware, avisynth is not. This means that most of the work is done by ONE processor. This means that a dual processor machine will give you some speed increase, but not as much as you'd want. The cool thing is you can play Medal of Honor-Allied Assault while encoding with good performance.

Try doing an encode without temporal smoother (this slows you down by up to 40%) also use 3 passes instead of 4, you may be suprised at the quality you can get with 3 pass vbr
