in apple-land there is a codec called photo jpg. that doesn't seem easy (for me) to find when using a non-apple device. i use software that recommends encoding to photo jpg, though. i do find mjpg in linux and windows systems. is that the same thing? can i get photo jpg in linux or windows? i need to encode mov files in photo jpg.

I believe mjpeg stands for motion JPEG, so it's basically JPEG compression applied to motion pictures. I've been receiving a few of them muxed in .imf in the past, however I'm not sure that it's what you are looking for.
