Time for a new poll.

I think it would be good to have VapourSynth included in the poll! Next year maybe, and I wonder what are the reasons for using x86?

... and I wonder what are the reasons for using x86?
Still there are some old plugins and prg's without x64 version (AudioLimiter.dll, NicAudio.dll, ..., BeHappy, ...)

BTW you can have both installed (x86 & x64) like me.

StainlessS
9th June 2019, 16:06
There is a NicAudio.dll v2.0.5 x64 knocking about somewhere. (I can post if you cant find it).

Here it is on Wiki:- http://avisynth.nl/index.php/AviSynth%2B_x64_plugins

EDIT: I think that WaveForm is the only other audio related dll that I have in x64.
EDIT: Also BassAudio at same link as above.
EDIT: Also ViewAudio, but Wonkey_Monkey Waveform is I think much better.

EDIT: Avs+, 1.0.1 x86 & x64, all the way.

Does macos and linux also allow a parallel usage of x86 and x64?

Groucho2004

I would have liked a bit more participation in this poll but so far a couple of things seem different compared to the last one. AVS 2.5.x appears to be pretty much dead and, if I recall correctly, the last time there were still some using SEt's AVS MT.

G2K4, do we get to see who voted 2.58 at end of poll, [I got my rotten tomatoes ready].

I think it would be good to have VapourSynth included in the poll! Next year maybe, and I wonder what are the reasons for using x86?
That would be in the next "Which version of Vapoursynth are you using" poll.

x86, probably mostly plug availability, still a lot of plugs have no source (eg nearly all LaTo), so cannot even mod to x64.
I'm curious about Neo.
Not ready for prime time yet.

Long live the Plus!
++1 on that.

You are wrong...

On my ancient machine (Coppermine P3, 576 MB RAM, No SSE2) I use classic AVS 2.6.1, but on my Core i5 Win7-64 computer I do use the latest AVS+ by pinterf. 32-bit only, I am not too excited about 64-bit.

And with AVS+ I needed a lot of time to get MT working without random crashes, I did get it working now, but it was not that easy.

Dont think he was talking to you.

I think I know who the culprit is, [tomatoes at the ready],

*** John Meyer ***

Think he has bout a dozen machines, I bet one of them is for old scripts that only run under 2.58.
As he also uses more recent versions too, think he should escape execution.

Avisynth 2.58 tsp MT version5(mod seraphy)

EDIT:

From 2017 poll:

EDIT: The only significant script that I can think of that will fail under v2.6 is InPaintFunc().
InPaintFunc relies upon a Levels bug that was fixed in 2.6, but that can be corrected to behave like bugged v2.58
with a call to Masktools prior to Levels.
EDIT: Here bug noted, and bug fix for InPaintFunc():- https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=172208&highlight=InpaintFunc

Up till end of 2016 I was on Avisynth 2.6.1 and the last time I voted for that, but then I switched to AVS+ and this time I voted for the latest Avisynth+ by pinterf (and yes, I have both x86 and x64 version installed as my plugin library is mainly 32bit and one of my old machine is running XP x86 but the other one uses Win10 x64).
I was very reluctant to switch but when I did the switch I had nothing but benefits: easier to go back and forth from stacked to interleaved and planar, with planar output greatly simplifying workflows, the ability to do tonemapping for HDR sources, the ability to use LUTs and other things...
The advent of PQ, HLG and logaritmic curves really made Avisynth 2.6.1 obsolete and gave Avisynth+ a huge boost in my opinion.
Still, you can do pretty much everything with the old, legacy AVS 2.6.1 as long as you stick with BT601 and BT709, but you are gonna be limited in a way or another...

In other words, I strongly suggest everyone to move to Avisynth+ by Ferenc Pinter as it's really the only way forward for Avisynth.

Maybe it is just my age, but all this sexy new stuff doesn't do anything for me. My TV does not do HD, I do not own any BluRay hardware (even if I did everything would still be 8-bit, 4:2:0 color, no HDR...).

The only advantage of AVS+ for me is the multitasking ability, and this was the only reason I installed it. In retrospect had I known all the trouble I had to endure until I got it really stable, I would probably not have switched. On average I get a speed boost from 25fps to 27 or 28fps. Nice, but not earth shaking. Classic AVS 2.61 Alpha is really all I will need for the rest of my life...

Cheers
manolito

I'm with you part of the way, but DVDs look blurry after HD. And as a general rule, there's about 10000000x times the amount of encoding artefacts in the average DVD video than for Bluray, or any decent quality h264 video really.... or even the video encoded by an average smartphone these days.

I just can't bring myself to care about 4k though. At my normal viewing distance from the TV, there's not much benefit to resolutions above 720p. I sit a tad past the point where it's possible to see 1080p worth of detail, or right on the edge at least....

Given most 1080p video today doesn't really have 1080p worth of detail, what's the extra resolution for? More detailed noise??

Still using 2.58 (cue public ridicule), but didn't vote this year because old machine is on its last legs. Looking at getting new Win10 computer in the next couple of months. Will probably install Avisynth+ 0.1.0, not sure whether x86 or x64.

Will probably install Avisynth+ 0.1.0, not sure whether x86 or x64.The choice is quite simple in my opinion - Install both (32 & 64) and use 64 bit unless you have a script that requires a plugin for which there's no 64 bit version available.

BTW, this is an example where the programmer was not familiar with those guidelines (and/or smoked too much weed while programming):

Hi there, I discovered Avisynth+ Neo with this poll and I'm wondering how much it's improved compared to normal r2772 version. I know it's CUDA compatible, but except that, it doesn't seem to be different in term of performance.

I would not say "Improved Compared to normal r2772", just different. It does have some additional bells and whistles that r2772 does not yet have,
but then again r2772 has some bells and whistles that Neo does not yet have.
Neo though does seem to have a few problems,
from here:- https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1870891#post1870891

Seems to be a pretty serious bug in avisynth NEO, Main avs level local variables not visible inside Scriptclip.
Works fine even in Avs v2.58, Fails in AVS NEO < "I dont know what S Means. ([Scriptclip] Line 1)" >

S="HELLO"
BlankClip.ScriptClip("""Subtitle(S)""")

Neo is supposed to handle special variable current_frame better where MT is used, but above problem maybe related to the supposed Neo fix for MT current_frame.
Above problem is likely to break an awful lot of main level scripts [ones not relying much on script functions, mainly in-line scripting, eg Video Fred's recovery script].

Think I discoved a couple of additional bugs in Neo within about an hours use of it.

EDIT: Hmmm, avs+ 64 bit seems to be gettin' seriously popular.
I just spent a day or two playing with v2.58, easy to forget just how limited and uncomfortable it was.
