Problems with h265

Hi guys I have several MKVs movies that I previously pass from BD50 to mKV using Makemkv

I preffer to keep this movies on an MKV (not to burn a Bluray disc) so I´m trying Handbrake with H265 but when I try watch it on my TV the movie play without problems but there´s not black bars lower and upper so the movie takes full screen

If I encode with H264 you can see that black bars

So because that I so wish to ask for your help guys I just don´t understand why the movie with H265 loose the black bars?

And I try to encode this movies in H265 because the size I notice some movies you can see in amazing quality but in reduce size

Show MediaInfo ("View"->"Text") of both one of your H264 and one of your H265 files for comparison of resolutions. Note that HandBrake has an auto-cropping feature in the "Dimensions" tab. You could try switching it from "Automatic" to "Custom" with all four fields set to "0". Also, your TV (which model?) may have some kind of zoom setting/button. Try to find it, look into the TV's manual.

I just tried on my computer and I can see the MKV with the black bars so I just cant undestand, I use the same "configuration" on my TV I mean always Automatic, that set the movie to watch in his original resolution

I tried on my tv, I encode again 1920x1080 but 265 appears without black bars, the TV is in automaticv mode, I select Cinema mode,, 4.3 mode no zoom etc but the movie still full screen, so I just dont know what happens?

Maybe try another encoding-GUI, like StaxRip2 or MeGUI (use x64 version if you got that CPU)? Be sure to update to the newest x265 when you do that though.

Thank you guys I finally can set up Handbrake for see the movie with Black bars in H265 now the problem is the following

As you can see on picture I set the subtitle section with English and Spanish subtitles but when I try watch this movie that was generated with Handbrake I dont know why because the TV let me choice for the subtitle but nothing appears on screen!! those subtitles are srt

What I do wrong?

@Blurayhd. Maybe your TV doesn't support SRT-subtitles?
I don't know if you use a HTPC with like MPC-HC to play the movie though, or use your TV's media-player.
Did you use the software MediaInfo to see if the SRT-subtitle really is in the MKV container-file? And maybe the SRT is incorrectly synched?

This is quite possibly piracy as the original subs would be sup format, not srt, unless you did the extremely labour intensive action of converting them with OCR software.

I convert many of my bluray subtitles to srt, text subtitles are more pleasant to watch and devices like my iPad can play them. It is pretty easy with Subtitle Extractor.

I watch several movies MKVs on my TV and no problem with no none, besides if I encode without subtitles but add the subtitles later with MKVtoolnik I try the MKV and the subtitles appears

Thank you guys I don´t know why I can´t see the subtitles on screen, when I play the movie the option for select subtitle is there but nothing appears!! I so others movies with SRT subtitles and no problem with it

in a fact if I encode useing Handbrake without subtitles and when the job is finish if I use MKVtoolnik for add the SRT to this MKV and save and try to watch then I can watch with this subtitles add after the encode

I believe Handbrake will use the SRT directly when muxing to mp4 instead of mkv, but I could be wrong.

Thank you again, like I said before once Handbrake finish the encode if I add the subtitle track with MKVtoolnix when I play on my TV I can watch with subtitles, if I do with Handbrake, I can´t see

Also, maybe you use text-compression on your MKV-container? I've read that some people had problem with that, but it's a small chance that you do.

My apologies. I just find it weird that you would take the time to process the subs, as when I do my anime, I leave everything as it is, unless I have to translate/fix the track myself (R2 backups).

Is something that I want to do, why? because I´m very (I can´t find the word) retailer? persistent? I mean, if I have the original PGS and I have the time or I make the time for convert that PGS to an SRT and use it with the MKV I´ll do it because my TV LED doesn´t support in MKV the PGS

Is Subtltle Extractor more easy than Subtitle Edit?

I just don´t know why is not there some tool that can convert SUP from Bluray to SRT directly, or automatic

I like Subtitle Extractor much more than Subtitle Edit, it has a slightly funky UI but it actually works really well once you are in the groove. I can easily OCR an entire set of blurays in one evening with it and the result has less typos and I v.s. l type issues at the end. For simply doing an OCR I find Subtitle Edit really slow and I still have more errors after I am done. Subtitle Extractor can keep colors and positions automatically when exporting ASS too (not perfectly of course), and you can easily export both ASS and SRT subs when done.

For bluray you do need to start with the demuxed SUP files, I use eac3to to extract them from the bluray disc.

The reason this is not easy or entirely automated is because SUP contains BMP image files and SRT contains text. You have to OCR and great OCR for all possible characters and all fonts doesn't exist yet, at least not in anything free that is designed for OCRing subtitles. The OCR in Subtitle Extractor is very good, I like it a lot more than Subtitle Edit's, but it still requires a lot of human input as it learns every symbol for a bluray set. After the first few episodes it should know almost everything and only ask for help a few times, for a new capital letter or number or something. Some signs or title cards with odd fonts or something can get much more difficult, but all subtitle OCR tools require a lot of manual work to handle those. :(
