Hi!
I just compiled what I thought it would be a working final project of two movies onto a single DVD-R, but still have some questions. Can any1 help?
1) I compiled to an empty partition, where Maestro creates AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Total size reported by Windows for all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder (since AUDIO_TS folder is empty) is 4.34Gb (4.662.738.944 bytes). I'm assuming this will fit a DVD-R 4.7Gb right?
2) I created, on the menu editor, just a menu with no art, i.e. I dragged two empty boxes, floating on "air", assigned them a name and a movie to play to each of them. When I load the main VIDEO_TS.IFO on PowerDVD nothing happens though. I thought I'd be presented a BLACK screen with cursor moving to option1 or 2. Do I need artwork to be imported imperatively for test purposes??
3) Say I add some artwork and background music to the menus, and total project goes a little beyond 4.7Gb... how would I make the whole thing fit a 4.7 DVD-R then? Ever faced this problem? Do I need to restart all over again or is there any trick to cut some frames out 'til fitting onto the 4.7?
4) After compilation, DVDMaestro complains about "NO first play defined" and other warnings regarding the menus... how do I fix them?
5) On the VIDEO_TS folder, an Untitled1.LAY file appears. Why? Can I just delete it before burning?
THanks in advance for your collaboration!!

1. your limit is 4,700,000,000bytes, whatever that works out to be in GB, its around 4.3/4.4, just keep an eye on the other, and dont count the .lay file tho. when you go to create a disc image in maestro, it will complain if it exceeds a single layer.
2. if you create buttons on a menu, but dont supply a background or subpicture image, then you get a white menu with no button highlights, best if you go into your favourite image editing program and mock up some simple files for it. you dont see what your hiliting in powerdvd mainly cause there is no button highlights, but you may be able to just get a coloured box come up by setting the 'white' colour on the subpicture.
3. first thing i would cutout would be the background music on the menu, just create a static menu with no music, if you really want music, you will prob have to re-encode some of your footage in a lower bitrate.
4. first play is defined in the connections window, you should check there to make sure all your other stuff is going to the right spot too. to bring up the connections window if you close it, right click on the topmost item in the project tree and click view connections, take note that the view connections window does change depending on what is selected in the tree.
5. the .lay file is used by maestro to hold disc image settings like volume name, css, macrovision, regions, and that sort of stuff, it doesnt appear on the dvd as a file, but its used by maestro when you create the disc image.

1) OK!
2) I didn't get any color boxes at all, powerdvd actually does not display nor a black screen! It sticks onto the powerdvd logo, and nothing happens. I thought that even without clipart, Powerdvd would show up a black screen with nothing in it but moving the cursor over the 2 areas I created, it would let me choose one movie or another...
3) I didn't add ANY menu at all, so no clipart, no music. DO I really need to rebuild the mpeg files again and wait another 9+ hours just because very few bytes go over the total DVDR size???
4) Leaving aside the buttons connections on the menu, do I really need to create any other connection?
5) I assume then that when burning a compilation with Primo, i should delete the lay file? move it somewhere else? just not select it with primo? What do you do?
Thanks!!

2) if you dont specify background and subpicture images, when maestro compiles, it replaces it with complete white for each of them.
3) just adding a static background and no audio should keep it under your limit.
4) you should also set the first play, and if you want, you can set where to go if someone presses the 'menu' button whilst playing the video, there is a setting for 'title menu' as well which specifies where to go if someone presses the 'title' button, apart from that, if it seems to run fine in powerdvd, you should be ok.
5) no need for the lay file in primo

2) OK!
3) Say I finish a project with no menus at all yet, and the project is slight over 4.7Gb... Shall I need to redo the video?? Can't I just cut some frames of the resulting .VOB or something??
4) OK!
5) OK!
Just 1 to go! ;)
Thanks m8!

3) you can use tmpeg mpeg tools to cut some frames off (preferably cut whole vobs off only tho).
