View Full Version : MPC-HC Could Not Render Some Of The Pins

I get this error message when I try opening a file. This has suddenly begun happening after a recent re-boot. Before this, the same files played with no such problem. I've tried uninstalling the K-Lite Codec Mega Pack and reinstalling it. I've tried Google searching it to death, but can not solve the problem.

The file is fine. MPC-BE can play it without any issues with both internal filters and external LAV Filters.

Try to uninstall K Lite codec pack completely.
Then install MPC-HC or MPC-BE (Worth a try in my opinion, I use MPC-BE for many years) and LAV Filters with its original installers.
Stay away from codec packs of any kind.
Download links:
MPC-BE 1.5.3 stable (https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/MPC-BE/Release%20builds/1.5.3/)
LAV Filters (https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases)
MPC-HC (https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases)
Since MPC-HC uses LAV Filters as internal filters, you don't need separate external ones.
But if you want to use LAV Filters and MPC-BE in combination, you need external ones, because MPC-BE uses the original internal filters like MPC-HC did several years ago. But the internal filters are fine, too. It is a matter of taste ;)

Yes, thanks; I know the file is fine. I can play it, with MPC-HC, on another computer.
However, I did try completely uninstalling the K-Lite pack and installed the MPC-BE and LAV filters you referenced. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. The same error message appears and the same issue where I can click through the error message, but then there is no audio.

1) NVIDIA GeForce GT 635
2) 10.18.13.5382
3) I don't know where to find the filters list.
Understand that there were no problems before Monday. Something, somehow, became corrupted on Monday that is causing MPC to fail. So, the hardware is fine.

3.) As already said - rightclick on videoframe then move mouse over filters
The driver version is strange. Did you install a driver on your own.
I really need the filters list otherwise I cannot help.

Ahhh ...it was the "rightclick on videoframe" that was missing. The list can be found here: https://postimg.cc/grvgqkW1
As I recall, the driver was installed simply by updating it in the device manager. It is listed as the "best driver software" for the device in the "Update Driver Software."

Next step is official Nvidia driver, go to Nvidia page and select your card, download driver and install it.
It is a mobile card, is that computer a notebook? Built in speakers?
That is a hard case, I installed MPC-BE on so many different computers, but never had a issue like that. It is a system issue, both MPC-BE and MPC-HC are affected here.
I have to think about it some more, maybe others can help, too.

The issue sounds like your audio device is not accepting any audio. Make sure the proper device is selected as the default playback device.

No need to think some more. Problem solved. This is a "Duh-h-h-h" moment. I have no speakers on this computer, only headphones. Just as a check, I tried VLC. Well, there was no sound with VLC either, but also no error messages. So, I think to myself: "what's wrong with my headphones?". They weren't plugged in (must have been pulled out)!!!
MPC - incredibly - reports the cryptic 'no pins' error message when there are no speakers or headphones plugged into the computer. It also reports 'no pins' for other reasons and that's what sent me onto the assumption that there was a software issue.
Thanks for the tip on the Nvidia driver, though. I installed it.

Thanks. In a round-about way, I came upon a similar cause. See above.

I didn't get rid of K-Lite. I reinstalled it when I discovered the solution to the original problem. I didn't have a compelling reason to change what has always worked.
However, I'd be interested in opinions as to why I shouldn't use it and what individual codecs would be recommended as comprehensive replacements.
Klaus1189

1.) MPC-BE has internal codecs (splitters and decoder) which cover 99,9% of files out there.
2.) LAV Filters, external ones or internal of MPC-HC is also everything you need to play a videofile of any kind.
3.) You can update each component of your used programs on your own, if you want to update it, no need to download a full updated pack just because only one component was updated. Even a Update pack is ridiculous.
4.) Do you really need Codec Tweak Tool? Why?
5.) MediaInfo can be installed without Lite version, this Lite version lacks a full output and you have to wait until the author of the GUI (!) updates his Lite version according to the devs of MediaInfo
6.) Icaros is a very nice tool, I use it, but also only the original installer. But why download a huge pack if a user don't need it.
7.) madVR is also a component you want to install on your own, not as part of a pack.
8.) the Mega contains also tools only 1 out of a million "needs".
9.) Always install only that you really need.
Offtopic:
This reminds me of how to choose a browser. Most use Chrome, but when I ask the "pros" about:config uring the browser they just stare at me ... ;)

Like Klaus said, MPC-HC already includes nevcairel's LAV filters and can work perfectly on its own, without needing any more software to play anything. Just be sure to download clsid's latest version (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=175209).
If you're after perfect picture quality (and have a decent PC), you can add madvr in the the mix, but even that is not necessary as most people won't see the difference.
The extra stuff included in codec packs is mostly useless for 99% people and can create issues and conflicts.
EDIT : grilled ;)

Thanks for the input. I will take a look at these suggestions.
My main concern is not for playing files with MPC (HC or BE). My main concern is for all the various editing software that I use. Would your suggestions cover most of this activity, or would you need to know the specific software? Of course, I could simply try these suggestions, wait for a failure and then address the specific issue.

That depends of the NLE you are using, does it support external codecs? If so you can use ACM and VFW codecs (not an expert here, not even any knowledge), also old ffdshow had encoders, if I remeber correctly.
On the website http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ you can see when the last version was released. I was using it in this time, but the years have gone by ...

1/2) K-Lite uses latest versions of MPC-HC and LAV Filters. Often newer than you would get with manual install of MPC-HC. It uses exactly the same codecs as you suggest someone should use.
3) That is more work. And who cares about a few MB when you are playing videos that are several GBs in size.
4) It is a small tool and there are cases where it is useful. Even if it is just to create a log of all installed codecs. You would be surprised to see how much crap certain multimedia programs install. It also offers easy way to reset settings of individual components.
5) For most people the standard MediaInfo output is sufficient.
6) More work with zero benefit.
7) Again, installing things manually doesn't magically make things work better.
8) There are smaller variants for a reason. Plus, a lot of the extra things in Mega aren't even installed by default.
9) Exactly what the K-Lite installer allows.
It is not just a convenient way to install everything. It also offers easy options for quick configuration, such as preferred languages for subtitles, and settings for hardware acceleration and audio passthrough. Plus it creates file associations for MPC-HC if you want to.
People here may like to do things manually. But the average user doesn't visit this forum or keep up-to-date with development progress of all these codecs, players, and other tools. Your situation doesn't represent that of others, and your way of doing things isn't superior to other methods.

Most professional NLEs use their own codecs. For example Vegas also needs QuickTime. ACM/VFW is for AVI files. Less advanced stuff like MovieMaker can use LAV Filters.

1.) It's a matter of taste what you like, some users like Potplayer better, I also tested it for many weeks some years ago, but I am a fan of both MPC-HC and of course MPC-BE.
2.) And you can update the internal LAV Filters or use external newer ones, no need to update a pack.
3.) The thought to download a "useless" pack, when the 99% of the programs with its exact versions are already installed. Just for an update, I don't know if it is this convenient.
4.) What crap is installed for example? MPC-BE is fine, LAV Filters are fine, madVR is fine. Do you know something hidden in them?
5.) Then you can use official "64 bit only without installer" from the devs, no bundle in installer if you are afraid of that. MediaInfo Lite is still 18.12, Mediainfo is already 19.04.
6.) I just install the component I really need, I want Icaros, so I install it and update it, 3.1.1 beta 1 is out already with many updates, nothing to see in K lite updates.
7.) They don't work better, I never said that, but it is cleaner to install one by one and only that you want and really need.
8.) But if you want one of the special things you have to download a monster pack, ucheck everything except this little feature. I don't know if I like that.
9.) Yes, but for that I don't need to download a pack for whatever reason.
But you are right, I may not represent an average user, more a power user, but please don't put words in my mouth, I never claimed that my method is better, superior or whatever.
Summary, I can update every single component of my computer, when a new version is out and don't have to wait weeks for an unofficial update, like MediaInfo Lite, or Icaros now for example.
Never said it is superior, but I like things clean, every user can use whatever he/she likes, but I personally don't want to recommend a codec pack of any kind.
I also don't what to tell people what they should do, I only want to help as much as I can and posting my personal experience may help them. I am open for other opinions, also for the one of clsid. :)

2) In both cases you need to update something. I don't see how one is easier than the other.
3) It will update only the components that have changed. Again, I don't see how this is a problem.
4) I am talking about other kinds of tools, like video converters and webcam apps. Those often silently install various codecs, including inferior or outdated stuff like ffdshow.
5) 19.04 was released yesterday. I am sure MI Lite will be updated today...
6) 3.1.1 is already included in latest K-Lite beta same day it was released...
7) No it isn't cleaner.
8) It's not huge. And you already said yourself that you also use most of the other components. Others likely do as well. Of course someone doesn't use it if they only need a specific item.
I am not saying that you should recommend it. I am just saying that there is nothing wrong with it. In the end they are practically using same stuff as you. Focus should be on the actual problem itself.
