I'm trying to upscale on madvr to 4k on my 1440p monitor.
When i try to upscale to any other resolution it works without problems.
My computer basicly restarts as soon as i play a movie in 4k.

When i had my previous graphics card gtx980.
i could upscale to 4k without any shutdowns or restarts.
As soon as i upgraded to the rtx2080 it stopped working.

Take a picture of the OSD (Ctrl + J) and post it here. It would be easier to understand the issue if the source pixel count is known and what was selected for upscaling.

I cant take a picture of the osd cause as soon as i drag/open the 4k video in mpc-hc my PC restarts...!

What is your power supply? Can you run games without any issues? Especially ones that max out the GPU?

That's the thing ive tested and played games that max out the GPU, Everything on the game side of things is working fine never had a restart till now...
If my power supply had anything to do with it would'nt it restart while playing maxed out games.???

It could be a setting is LAV Filters or a fault with the file. Also try resetting madVR to its defaults in the installation folder.

Maybe it's a video driver issue. Try newer or older drivers for your GeForce.

Maybe it's a video driver issue. Try newer or older drivers for your GeForce.

I was thinking that too and did change the driver to an updated driver and still no change.
The other problem is that the RTX2080 is so new that there isnt a big list of updated or drivers for it,
i was trying to shrink the list of things i thought it could be

GPU driver tested 2 driver with no luck and the only other thing i need to test is the power supply haven't tested with another supply yet.
software side of things it could be anything

Mpc-hc
LAVFilter
madVR (reset)
etc.......

Have you tried EVR renderer to see if it's a global issue? have you tried DXVA2 and D3D11 in LAV?

Yes tested EVR render/custom and its all good as soon as i use madVR the problem came.
And yes tested DXVA2 in madVR/LAVFlters & tested DXVA2/NONE(CPU) in LAVFilters
You mean D3D11 madVR if so ive tested it still no fix:eek:

hyperdrive,

Have a look on Gigabytes website and see if there is a newer bios for your card you can try. Otherwise like Crimson Wolf said, Random lockups and system restarts are symptoms of a faulty or overloaded power supply. MadVR uses the system in a different way that shows the problem with the new card.

Ill have a look for bios,
I was thinking it could be the power supply too, do you think the power supply overloaded/faulty because of the extra power of the RTX2080 ? or cause its on its way out/both???

Many people had problems with power supplies that are not single rail high current to the GTX 2080 & 2080Ti's, right after upgrading from a working computer. If you state your current power supply, others may find more info if it can be the cause of your issues. Some power supplies have a switch from multi-rail to single rail.

hyperdrive,

Problaly a combination of both, the new card drawing more power from the system and the age of the power supply. A high quality power supply should have a lifespan of around 4-5yrs but that all depends on the quality of the components used in construction, things like capacitors, resistors and voltage regulators wearout over time.

This is only my opinion and depending on your budget, think about upgrading to a high quality 850W model. In my experience Seasonic are reliable or the Corsair AX series of power supplies which are made by Seasonic. Other members might have more suggestions for reliable models to have a look at.

"Four +12V rails(12V1,12V2,12V3,12V4) supports high-end graphic card and PC system (combined loading of 60A). "

"Based on the Intel design guide 2.x , the 12V output current must lower then 20A in order to meet the UL and EN-60950 requirements. So if you have multiple 12V output, it means they have a max combine output current limit, and each 12V output must lower then 20A."

So, based on these comments from the Thermaltake website, I suspect your power supply to be the cause of your issues. This power supply might be old and can only supply ~15A from the 12V rails, and your new card is pulling much more to trigger the reset.

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/2080ti-overclocking-woes.18832802/ is an example of someone getting resets from power supply issues. For example, Corsair HX850i has a toggle from multi-rail (default) to single rail using their software that connects to the power supply. Please make sure your new power supply can provide single rail high amp 12V.

The Toughpower 750W Gold has a single 12V rail, thats plenty powerful. You got the wrong model - if the listed model above was correct, anyway.

I got the information from the thermaltake website here:

https://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00000788

Is this not it? It says "Four 12V rails(12V1,12V2,12V3,12V4)" I've only done a quick search, and the gallery doesn't show a zoomed in view of the specs.

Perhaps it's faulty? Is it possible to try a different power supply?

the normal version got 4 rails and the gold version has 1 rail.

even with a 4 rails setup it would be more than powerful enough as long as it is properly wired. if it is a very old 4 rail version something like an unpopular molex to 6 pin can fix the load issue,

i find it very strange that games run and madVR not because madVR can't load a GPU the same way as a game can.

What GPU do you have? Do you have all the PCI-e cables connected?

I’ve had the supply for a good 4 to 5 years yeh I’ve got a few supplies laying around was gonna test it sometime this week after work when I get time it’s just funny how I can max out GPU settings in games and the supply runs fine as soon as I upscale with madVR form 2 k to 4 reset but I think 90% chance it’s the supply I’ll let u know when tested

Even I think it’s strange to but I mean its got to be gpu drivers due to being so new , power supply or bios what do u think I should buy if it is the power supply ? Money isn’t a issue

Lets leave PSU for a second to look what Internet gives back when we type "rtx 2080 problems"....
Well, apparently many people have issues with their 2080 Ti dying.. There is less info about 2080, but these gpus may fail too but with lower rate than Ti.

i seen that too maybe but if so wouldnt it stuff up when maxing out gpu to play games?

New rumours say that 2080 (no ti) are affected too. Its about malfuncioning Micron Ram memory. Only cards with specified serial number behave badly.
Madvr runs basically like a video game, it uses shaders and do heavy load on gpu and memory transfers. So definitely can trigger the same problems as video games do.

Never was able to fix this done my head in gonna try things again after a good 6 months and new gpu drivers and see if can get madvr working with the gpu

ok sorry for late post but i ended up fixing this.
The drama was in the gpu got this thing brand new and from the factory, it was a faulty card the company replaced it so after all it wasnt the power supply
cheers for all ur guys help much love
